Tyre inflator

The old foot pump died some while back and really needs to be replaced. Anyone recommend a decent replacement, either foot or battery powered. Thank you

Get one that you clip onto the battery like ARB https://www.arb.com.au/air-compressors-tyr...mpressors/

I have 3 compressors in parallel so it's quicker. In total typically draw up to 90 amps. 28 seconds 20 psi to 35 psi.

I’ve been using this on a weekly basis for a year now as the alloy is corroding inside the wheels and all have slow leaks it’s never missed a beat after going through 3 battery inflators that all failed at some point.

Most manufacturers only state maximum PSI at zero air flow & maximum air flow at zero PSI, all a bit meaningless to say the least.

Down this page is a chart showing PSI vs air flow vs amps.

I've got one just like that, had it for over 15 years and used it a lot when i went off roading, still works well. Common sense isn't very common.

Every time you inflate a tyre you keep adding water.

Let's say the compressor is working typically at 90 PSI, this is about 6 times atmospheric pressure, so the compressed air will have 6 times the moisture content.

Some moisture will condense on cold surfaces while an air tank is cool. If you have a moisture trap it will reduce moisture, an after cooler will remove more moisture & refrigeration or desiccant will remove the last bit of moisture, both would be even better.

So if you are inflating tyres on a humid day straight from the compressor all the moisture will end up in the tyre.

Moisture collected inflating one tyre on a humid day.

You really want to be putting dry air into tyres to minimise corrosion issues. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I still have a second air tank but don't know where to shoehorn it into the car. It was going to be next to the first one but changed my mind & went for a third compressor. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

All these cheap pumps watch their duty cycle or you will cook it. They wouldn't be more than 25% so 5 minutes on 15 minutes off. My ARB compressors only have a 50% duty cycle, 10 on 10 off.

The ARB compressor has a 50 amp fuse, typically runs up to 30 amps.

Don't run them via the 12v socket, stick some alligator clips on or better still an Anderson plug https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic34015.html Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

For topping up the pressures (rather than filling four sets of desert tyres as Lightwater does Rolling with laughter ) I recently bought the hand held Bosch pump and compared to the other two handheld cheap pumps I have bought previously on eBay/Amazon the Bosch pump is brilliant, so compact and the battery holds the charge seemingly forever! and it’s tiny in comparison.

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

You could parallel all 3 pumps. Put the wife & kids on them, & you can monitor the pressure increase!

I have a bike vertical hand pump. Even to top up tyres it is exhausting. There is about 65 litres volume in one of my tyres.

Hand pumps get hot at the end of the cylinder & then lose their effectiveness. Pour water over the end of the cylinder. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In the end I bought a Ring RTC1000 - seems to be fine for checking pressures and topping up which is all I was really looking for. Thanks any way everyone.
