Phone mount in front of satnav screen

With how poor the built in satnav is, we've abandoned ever using it and just rely on using Google maps on our phones.

I would like a nice easy to use phone holder that would go in front of the satnav screen as it seems a good spot to use.

Has anyone found anything that works well in this spot and that mounts securely?

Thanks

Still very happy with it. You could do something similar with the A column speaker grills. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I've not found the SATNAV too bad myself. Actually it got me out of Wales a few weeks ago, when every road over the Severn was closed, and Google maps was sending me in circles between closed river crossings. But the LR nav knew which roads were closed, and adjusted the route according, getting me back towards the southwest without any drama at all. Thumbs Up 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

What version of sat nav are you using? The built in LR sat nav doesn't have live updates so how can it work a route around diversions?

My inbuilt FL2 Sat Nav indicates reported traffic problems quite well via the indicator on the screen, although I have to check what info is via the screen and ask it to provide an alternate route.
The Navigation System is fed info via the broadcast Traffic Message Channel, and I have found that it finds some very interesting (adventurous?) route around problems.
Although getting a little out of date now, it is quite a clever system and includes both Dead Reckoning and Off Road systems.

I also have to cope with motorways and roads around the M5 and M4 in the Bristol/South Wales areas, which gives both my LR and Garmin Sat Nav's plenty to do getting me home.

I have mounted my (additional system) Garmin (which gets Traffic Info via my phone) on a flat plate at the bottom of my driver's A pillar.

I'm using the original 2009 MY factory nav, with the 2021 disc. It uses TMC to know which roads are closed, and guides around the closures. Thumbs Up The 12 year old LR nav is better than our 2019 Mazda CX5 nav, which is completely hopeless. Big Cry 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

I’ve never had any issues with the satnav in our 63 plate and I find it easier to use than the mapping on my iPhone. Have never used the TMC facility but may activate it when we go away next week

It’s a year since I bought my 2010 HSE auto. One of the first things I replaced was the satnav disc. Really didn’t,t use it much as all my mileage has been local.
However this week I drove out to Ardnamurchan lighthouse and then via Skye to Applecross. Satnav was fine. Continued to my daughters in Aberdeenshire. Here’s the problem. 2021 disc did not show the AWPR Aberdeen ring rd which opened 4/5 years ago. Is my disc faulty or do I need to remove it and reinstall. I have read that when installing disc you should go for a drive. Is this correct? Guidance needed please. Jim A

Happy to be proved wrong but believe you’ll find that although it’s a 2021 disc, the info will be a couple of years earlier than that so likely produced prior to the ring road being finished.
Unlikely to be an installation error

The current DVD available is the 2019/2020 data disc, this is the last disc that will be made available for this system - the last LR sanctioned disc is the 2015/2016 (iirc) and all discs after this date will be reformated Mazda or Volvo discs (they all use the same SATNAV and software).

The 2019/2020 data is based on map data as of qtr3, 2018. MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black

Ours is a 2010 and if I remember correctly the disc is the 2009 version.

It feels like using Windows 95 to operate and takes ages to input an address.

With the phone you just say "Navigate to........" And it takes you there.

I've not had any issues with Google maps of with Waze.

I don't know if it is worth trying the newer disc, but it isn't the lack of new roads etc, it is the old clunky interface that I don't really like. I presume the slow old interface doesn't get replaced with the newer disc?
