Will not be the first cambelt I have replaced and undoubtedly will not be the last with three teenagers, thanks for your reply

Did mine end of last year. I bought a belt kit including waterpump, the locking pins, set of rear brake pads and an oil filter for £100 from a member on here who had sold his Fl2, which was a bargain.

(The rear pads are the wrong type, for the earlier car with a physical handbrake rather than a switch. If anyone is interested in them give me a shout.)

That was the first timing belt I'd ever done so took it slowly checking everything 2 or 3 times. Not too bad to do, just a bit fiddly. I'd recommend getting a new crankshaft bolt. I didn't and it was f@@@ing tight. I was concerned that it might break. But all good. Another of the big 10 year service items ticked off.

As you say with teenagers it's likely not the last. Sons Polo is 2014 at 70k miles so I'm sure I'll be doing it at some stage. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Wouldn't put non genuine cambelt/water pump on mine especially if you do it yourself and save on labour.

JLR dont make timing belts or waterpumps etc.

My original belt was a Gates one.

OEM Gates or Dayco are fine. Just make sure they are not fakes.

Gates use a coding system to check authenticity of their kits - each has a unique code which can be used just once and is authenticated through the Gates website. Jules

LR belts are made by Gates, but you're welcome to spend 4 X as much for Gates belt in an LR box if you want, but that's a expensive cardboard box. Whistle 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

I wonder how many actually do a lot of miles in their cars I know we don’t, so fitting original stuff would not be that critical as it would be changed on time rather then miles. Also with my luck I would spend a fortune on original parts and it would be nicked or written off and I get a fraction of the money back.
