I tend to use genuine parts/ filters etc as this was an expensive car to buy and as i don't have a lot of money i take a different view to protect my investment.

LR parts are specifically designed for that car, there is parts warranty and they have been made with quality components with no cutting corners to make it cheaper for those who need cheap parts. This vehicle will be used well, towing and everyday use so to me it makes sense.

I had a defender for many years and was member of defender.net and would regularly see posts about issues with the vehicles and most used non genuine parts/ components (not talking about bolt on parts).

I also want to (as much as possible) keep it in best overall condition so if i have to sell there may be some buyers who would prefer a vehicle that had genuine parts fitted and this may provide me with a higher resale value.

Anyway when the majority have EVs which are tamperproof, you may initially be forced to use genuine parts.

Yes the value of a car would also affect how much budget for spares etc, generally older cars would get pattern parts.

As long as it looks good on the day, drives well and you have evidence of servicing then that is all that really matters.

In 40+ years of motoring no garage, dealership or individual buyer has ever asked about whether the parts were genuine, OEM or unbranded.
Yes, it matters if you sell the car within manufacturer's warranty but outside that it is of little consequence as far as the price you'll receive.

Similarly no buyer has ever asked how many times I've washed the car and with what detergent and polish etc. Just give it a good clean and polish when you come to sell it. Jules

Many top of the range cars are fitted with 6 pot Brembro brakes, not their own ..... I wonder why ???? Perhaps they are superior ???

Many aftermarket parts have the original 'defects" corrected. Bell Engineering for example have corrected Land rover design faults .......

I do laugh when I hear " I only fit genuine parts" ........ If every manufacturer "made" all their own parts cars would be even more overpriced than they already are .

There's nothing wrong with using OE parts, but to spend 3 or times as much for the same part in an LR box isn't saving money, it's simply propping up the finances of a huge company, who is clearly quite happy to fleece it's brand loyal customers. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Once a year i service the freelander (or will do) and to buy genuine filters at £58 for b service is no brainer. That works out about £5 per month to keep vehicle in good condition plus oil.
The cambelt and waterpump at £370 over 10 years is about £3 per month.
But its all about perspective.

As i mentioned i bet EVs are maintained using genuine parts?? Please confirm if you have an EV you are using non genuine replacement parts.

This is no different to what you eat or drink.
Would you want cheapest beer / food or would you like quality beer / food?
If you want cheap beer/ food to save yourself £££ then go for it. But your health may suffer as cheap does not always equate to quality and in time the body may suffer.
But as i say your choice, i exercise my choice by buying what i believe to be quality/correct parts.
