5 mph Auto Door Lock

HI.

My 5 mph auto door lock on the drivers door does not work - all other doors are fine.

All functions on all other doors are fine, its only the 5 mph auto lock that's the problem.

Can anyone help.

Regards.
Gordon.

If its only one door, I would think it's a sensor or switch problem on that door.
Have you tried all the other methods of locking/unlocking the doors, for example dash switches, for clues.

Are you sure that the door successfully locks with all other methods.

I would also suggest resetting system, although I don't think you can easily switch auto-lock on/off on early models.
This comes up if you google, but I am unsure it applies to FL2s.

It's most likely the door actuator has worn out. Locking and unlocking a car unnecessarily is a waste of door lock motor life.

Mine wasn't enabled when I bought it, and I definitely wouldn't enable it. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Not expensive or difficult to replace the 2 electric motors in each latch - just time consuming as it involves a lot of dismantling of the door.
Lots of info available here and YouTube Jules

After a teacher at my school having her laptop stolen from the back seat of her car via an unlocked rear door while stopped at a road junction by some scroat I think I’ll keep mine activated thanks. The same with only unlocking the drivers door rather than all of them. The experience of having the passenger door opened by an opportunist thief (happened to my mum in a ‘posh’ area of Bristol) led her to purposefully disable the electrical passenger door lock of her 2 door car!

Good Morning Everyone.
Can anyone tell me how many little motors are in one door lock.
Can confirm that every other function of all doors work fine - only the 5 mph on driver door lock is inop.
Regards
Gordon.

Living in Cornwall, I don't need to worry about such things. If I drive to a dodgy area, I can lock the car when needed, but I definitely don't want the car to decide when that is.

There are 2 motors in the door lock assembly. One motor disconnects the external handle (this is what happens at 5 MPH), the other motor disconnects the interior release lever too, this motor is only activated when the vehicle is super-locked from the fob. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Nobody would call the high street in Westbury on Trym a dodgy area so we’ll leave it at that!

Hi
Thanks for all your help.
One last thing - So you are saying, that you can completely loose one of the 2 motors, run on one and only loose the 5 mph function on that door ?
Regards.
Gordon

Please explain what is not actually happening when the doors are auto locking. Is it both internal and external handles, and does the little internal lever move to 'lock' position.

On mine the drivers door reacts differently to other doors, because when I stop, although the little 'lock' door lever is in the locked position, it will still allow opening of door (and unlock all others), while other door internal door handles will not move until told to unlock by the driver's door opening, or other means.

The same happens if you use the button on the dashboard, that is, all door handles lock externally, but the internally handles freewheel --except for the internal driver's door handle which still remains engaged. If used the driver's handle will unlock the car.

It is important that you try as many modes as possible as I believe the CJB controls what happens to locking/alarm system, and may unlock (or refuse to lock) if it believes it is in a miss-lock or other error condition. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Hi.
This is what happens :
When I unlock the car all is normal - all doors are unlocked - small lock levers are in unlock position.
When I drive away, at 5 mph the small lock levers with the exception of the drivers door lock.
The drivers door small lock lever can be locked manually while your driving, and you can hear it lock.
When you come to standstill you open the drivers door and all small lock levers unlock.
Regards.
Gordon

Is the outside driver's door handle locked when
in driving autolock mode
when locked via dashboard button
when locked via door locking switches
when single locked by fob
when double locked by fob

what state are the little levers on interior when in above.

Just trying to work out if the actuators, etc, are working, before you change anything.
Thanks

Yes that’s all very good Gordon but what exactly happens when the little lever is pressed and the fob button is pressed once while indicating left and turning the radio on ? Mr. Green

Thanks Gordon for checking all the modes.

I think that as you have proved that the actual physical locking system is working, but something is going wrong with the communication from the CJB or its inputs that help it decide when to send locking signal.

Unless anyone else has some sensible ideas, we need a bit of time to study your results and see what clues the repair manual give us. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
