NSR Light strangeness

Hello,
A bit of an odd one - got to work the other morning and a colleague told me that my near side rear light was out.
This didn't worry me.
When i got back to my car 12 hrs later I checked behind and ALL lights worked. 'Great' I thought 'I love it when things fix themselves....'.
I rechecked when I got home (8 miles later) and the bloody light was out again Rolling Eyes

It's been like this for days now - i don't know at what point in my journey the light goes out as no warnings on dashboard.
There does seem to be a quiet, high pitched 'warbling' sound coming from somewhere in the area of the light clusters that you can only hear with your head close - or that could just be my blood boiling.....

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Cheers, Dave. 1974 Series 3 Lightweight

I’ve had a dodgy filament before it was on and off all the time.

That's a good shout - it's always better to start with the simple stuff first.

It's just typical of modern cars with ECUs for everything..... Rolling Eyes

On my freeloader I have never had a warning telling me a light failed, but strangely have had a fault code on my reader.

swap the bulbs over and see if that makes a difference,
Could also be damp, but then your in Cumbria, Whistle
check all the connectors making sure they are clean and dry,
also check the ground connection as our vehicles are now getting
older and electrical connections will be a problem if they are not kept on top of. DAVE.

For whatever reason I don't think they have a light out warning

Nice one - thanks gents... Thumbs Up

On the subject of 'Code Readers' (and wandering off topic slightly) Landy won't talk to mine....

Everybody else's car will happily chat away (Alfa and two VW's) but when I connect it to mine it says 'waiting for vehicle to respond...' and that's as far as i get.

Any thoughts..??

I am afraid that the Freelander will tell you all sorts of useful things such as when your windscreen washer level is low!! But unfortunately nothing about whether any bulbs have blown. I had a situation a while ago where I drove for over 100 miles on the M4........ daytime but heavy rain and low visibility in the belief that my headlights were on. In fact both bulbs had blown which meant that there were no lights showing on the front as the DRL's are bypassed when headlights are on!!

Ian,
That's an excellent link - thank you.

I've gotta admit - it's disconcerting to read the whole post and learn that an electrical gremlin can 'write off' an otherwise good vehicle... Sad

** UPDATE **
I'm really stumped now - When I set off both tail lights work but when I get to my destination the NSR is out.
If I then kill the ignition and 'un-dock' the key then immediately turn the ignition back on BOTH tail lights illuminate...

Anyone had this before..??

Probably nothing to do with anything but did your car ever have tow bar electrics fitted? When I took mine (OEM) off my earlier pre plug and play FL2 it demonstrated some oddness until the dealership plugged the car in and told it that it no longer had the towing electrics.
