I'm fitting a reversing camera to my car.
As I don't have a head unit with a video display,
I've opted for a monitor that clips over the interior mirror.
Can I run a cable up inside the the D pillar and through the
Roof lining, or do I need to go under the boot trim and along the
Sills and bring it up the A pillar to get to the monitor?

Given the amount of insulation that our friend stuffed under the head lining
it looks as though there's plenty of room under there.
I wonder if I can thread a fish tape front to rear, under it?

As my camera is primarily for trailer hitching, I've mounted it at bumper level. I'll be bringing the cable up into the rear offside wing behind the tail lights.
If I was going behind the ceiling, I'd be looking to access it from the top of the D-pillar, rather than through the tailgate grommets

You should be able to go over the ceiling. Unscrew the sun visors to drop the front edge a bit. You may need to take off the A column trim panels, screw is behind airbag logo. The ceiling lights between the sun visors just needs a short sharp firm tug to unclip it. Apart from the two cross beams strengthening the roof, the very rear of the ceiling probably will be the most difficult bit to get around. It maybe easier going from rear to front. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Test the camera out in the location, sticky tape it too the bumper. Personally I think it will be to low. If it was under the handle you would have a bit more of an overview. Then look at a camera to fit the car.

Having had another look at it, and a bit of a poke under the roof lining, I decided that the easiest route was under the carpet,from front to back and up the A pillar.
The car was already fitted with reversing sensors and my need for a camera was just for easy hitching of trailers, so the priority was to see the tow ball.
Unlike my Shogun, the towball on the Freelander doesn't stick out far enough to get line of sight from anywhere above the bumper, so I mounted very low down.

I'm pleased with the result. The mirror monitor functions fairly well as a mirror.
It has a wider view than the standard item, but the reflection has a bluish hue.
The camera image although fairly small at 5 inches, is very clear.

Sparky, what camera did you use? Bumper mounting is going to be a lot less hassle and, like you, my main reason for fitting one would be for lining up the tow bar and trailer.

You can easily run the cable along the floor & up the A column, but take off the A column trim panel & run the cable behind the airbag, not across the front of it.

The little panel below the A trim will need to come off. Give it a very firm sharp tug, you are less likely to break clips this way. There are 2 clips on the back. There are 2 clips plus the screw on the A trim. The rubber gasket around the door simply pulls off.
