Can anyone point me in the direction of a new pad for the sump tray ?
Mines disintegrated so badly, looks like someone took a jet washer to it.
Cannot find a part number or even a pic of one on it's own. Can only find new undertrays with the pad already fitted, but not to purchase separately.

Does the pad make much of a difference? Jules

Having recently become an FL2 owner my car did not have a sump tray fitted.
Managed to get a used one from a breaker.
Just plain steel, no signs of any “pad” or anything attached.
Cleaned and painted and fitted.
What is the pad? Is it some kind of sound deadening?
Like to know more about the FL2

IIRC, it would be a sound reducing pad,
I did read many years back that the taller the vehicle then
the more sound escaped from beneath the engine bay,
although the Freelander isn't that high so I suppose the effect isn't great. DAVE.

There is no acoustic insulation on the sump tray on the Si4. I have added acoustic insulation everywhere else, including in the engine bay. There are some comments in this thread on engine bay acoustic insulation let alone the rest of the car.

It may make a difference. Ford did a good job designing the acoustics of the Freelander. I have stuffed my car with insulation, but have noticed that if you don't get it right the car sounds wrong. A bit in the right area can make a huge improvement.

If you have a photo of the insulation on the tray or what's left of it, it would be appreciated as the Si4 petrol engine doesn't have it. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I don't know if the diesel is the same.
But you can see how damaged it is.

Mine got destroyed by a PS fluid leak, I replaced it with some automotive sound-deadening mat with adhesive on the bottom and metal foil on the upper side. It's cheap.

Not sure I noticed much difference in noise either way.

That acoustic insulation looks like 3M Thinsulate used around the rest of the car in small amounts. It will work on higher frequencies, but the diesel clatter is a lower frequency.

Personally I would rip that off. I don't think it will make much difference. Secondly it is in a location asking to retain a bit of water to promote rust.

So, I would make up an acoustic block using my templates (3 A4 prints joined together) & stuff it inside the the car. This will have more improvement on sound & be inside the car.

Go to a breakers and get the sound deadening pad from under any bonnet and cut that to shape.  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
