Parking sensors. How to disable?

Hi all.

I've had a rear camera fitted on my FL2 today but unfortunately the rear parking sensors still come on when I engage reverse with their annoying beeping sound.

My question is, can these sensors be disabled completely so they don't operate and have that awful whine when reversing?

If they can, how do I do it please?

Many thanks all. Kind regards.

Paul

It's normal for a camera to work in conjunction with sensors, not instead of them.
Every car we've had with a camera, also has sensors.
Pulling the fuse with stop them working, but it'll stop the front sensors too. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

At the rear , drivers side tucked under the back bumper is a connector that joins the sensor loom to the main loom . If you separate that the rear sensors will be disabled . But as above why would you ? 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I have the front sensors as well & there is a switch on the dash console to turn front & back off, which I do when backing out of the garage. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Because of the annoying noise they make as described in my original post and if you have a camera why would you need sensors anyway. My previous car that I owned for 6 years was a Toyota Rav4 and the camera was fantastic on that and it didn't have sensors on that.

Thanks for the tip on the connector though Thumbs Up Kind regards.

I have a camera but I find the sensors can pick up things that may be slightly out of the sight of the camera at periphery. Also they give warning of things when you aren't looking at camera picture. I wouldn't want to be without them.
But, your choice I suppose. Andy

Hi,
Another vote for "why would you" as they will only be bleeping when you are actually near something Whistle

I reverse up our drive to the house wall and the only bleep is when I am near the wall, 1 or 2 bleeps and I am parked up and all is quiet again. Laughing

Just be aware unplugging the rear loom may put a fault light on the dash button, mine did when I was sorting out a duff sensor ( to replace it Whistle )

Thumbs Up .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

My car has a camera and sensors neither of which I use very often as I tend to use the mirrors and my eyes, but when selecting reverse you can press the sensor button on the dash and it stops the beeping, sorted Thumbs Up

Yes I get what you all are saying and they are all very valid points it's just that my sensors still keep bleeping away even after I have driven away! maybe there is a fault with them?

Yes, I know they can be switched off by the button on the dashboard and believe me I do... Wink Kind regards.

It would appear that you have a fault. On my manual TD4, the sensors turn off along with the reversing lights when you change to neutral.

Sensors work better in adverse weather than a camera, which will get covered in dirt and water when it's wet. All the vehicles we've had with a camera over the last decade, has always had sensors too, and the sensors are definitely more useful when the weather is rubbish, as the view from the camera is poor, when the weather is bad.

The sensors should be silent, unless there's something nearby to trigger the warning. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

The sensors should turn off when a speed of 10mph is reached, according to handbook. Of course they should stop beeping anyway when obstacle is out of range. If they don't then you DO have a fault. Andy

I was pretty annoyed with them as well for a while (became muscle memory to hit the button to turn the noise off as soon as i put her into reverse), but after giving them all a good clean and a Rain-X, things got better. Getting them near perfect took cleaning out the connectors behind the bumpers as well. Of course, still the occasional beep when very rainy, but happy now, and didn't have to replace any of them.
