Clutch issue no resistance straight to floor clutch faulty

Please help if you can. I love my FL2 and live on St Helena Island. few days ago started experiencing clutch issues. when pressing the clutch, it would sometimes stick at the bottom, a few taps with the foot and it would return to normal. it started happening a bit more often. then i noticed it was starting to get harder to select first and reverse. the reservoir (both brake and clutch) correct me if wrong, was very low but not empty. i topped it up and that seemed to help and the sticking of pedal at the bottom stopped but i now could not select reverse while the engine was running. only way to get reverse was to switch engine off, select reverse and then start engine. i tired to get FL2 home but on the way home the clutch gave out completely and went straight to floor without resistance. I have been reading the posts and it seems to be pointing to slave cylinder and DMF. getting parts out to St Helena takes 2-3 months or air fright once a month. air freight is £6 per kilo. so wanted to ask, is there a way to rule out master cylinder or slave cylinder? as it be nice to know which as if it is slave i will look at getting all the bits but it will cost. how can i diagnose which is gone? any help would be greatly appreciated?

The fluid has leaked out from somewhere.
The reservoir sits on top of the brake master cylinder and feeds fluid via a pipe to the clutch master cylinder. If the clutch master cylinder is leaking Id expect fluid to be seen around that.
You'll need to remove the secondary bulkhead to get to it.
If the slave is leaking (most likely in my experience) then fluid will leak out of the bottom of the clutch bell housing. I assume there is a hole there. Jules

On my first FL2 the slave cylinder went, and contaminated the clutch and DMF. There was no sign of any leak externally.

symptoms for me were slipping in 6th, then 5th then a bit in 4th but I didn't notice any difference in the pedal probably as im a heavy footed freak.

OP says fluid level was very low so I was assuming it had been leaking out somewhere. Jules

thanks everyone, i have now ordered the full clutch kit including master and slave cylinders and DMF. while waiting on the parts to arrive will look at removing the secondary bulk head and do an inspection of the master cylinder and pipes. thanks for everyones help. it sounds like the slave cylinder but is no harm having a spare clutch kit if it is the master that is gone.

finished removing the subframe now trying to disconnect the gear linkage. not sure how they disconnect. hoping someone be able to let me know how to disconnect the linkage cables? cheers, Simon

hi everyone, still waiting on parts to arrive but have 2 questions you can help with.
Question 1: on removing the front left hand CV joint, the end that inserts into the gearbox, i dented the metal dust seal housing. image attached. I am hoping i can try and reshape and re-use?
Question 2: I forgot to add the clutch breather pipe LR011836 to my order. looking at the old one it still looks OK. Do you think it be fine to re-use?

My suggestion to repair this dust cap is to turn up a sleeve to fit over the entire stub axle with an internal diameter to be a clearance fit on the seal diameter. Put a short taper on the front edge to allow it to just fit under to damaged area.
Then having put it into position gently tap it driving it down to remove the dent.
I would suggest brass as a material for this sleeve as you would be less likely to damage the seal area

Found another issue. the rubber or rubber seal has become cracked with age. it fits on the inside of the front hub were the drive shaft attaches. I have no idea the part number. anyone knows what it is called or the part number so i can order a set?

Now do not hold my feet to the fire but it looks like LR 002905 which is called Differential Seal
But I suggest you check this carefully as St Helena is a long way to send it back
