But I would give the main dealers a bell as they are on their knees at the moment my nearest dealership has halved its staff.

Thanks for the replies.
After i put on the query the old brain box kicked in and I looked at the maintenance section.
Should have looked there first

Cheers and thanks

Jim, Never used them myself as I do all my own work but Clickmechanic.com quotes £278 for belt and waterpump change(parts and labour with 12 months warranty) with good reviews from the mechanics listed. Might be worth checking them out!

Thanks Don, I use Gibsons at Cumnock for major servicing and chassis work and a local garage in Johnstone for the rest.
Friend of mine with a Freelander uses a small garage in Beith who seems to specialise in Freelanders
Will contact him tomorrow

Cheers

Local main dealer has emailed & texted both me and my wife to remind us that the 7 year service is due (November) and to call them to book the car the car in.

Strangely, they make no mention of price. I am tempted to call just to see how much money they want for the job ('A' service with cam belt change). I have a strong OCD like compulsion to keep the dealer service history intact... knowing the price may cure me of that.

For some strange reason Citroen parts are cheaper than Peugeot, I think the order is from cheapest Citroen, Ford, Peugoet then LR Rolling Eyes however LR did have the longest life, not sure if it's still the case but LR have the most powerful engine of all variants of the engine. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

If you are going to do it yourself - and I did mine at the weekend - buy a Gates kit as the original belt was marked Gates when I took it off. It is not difficult, just time consuming. Especially as you have to learn the tricks to do it and you probably only do it one in the lifetime of the car!
This YouTube is quite good

But this sequence from a site member is also excellent (if you know Russian)

The price quoted by Click Mechanic ...

Timing belt replacement
2-3 hours labour time
£300.09

Includes parts: Engine coolant/antifreeze, Timing belt kit, Water pump.

I got mine done by a local independent Land Rover specialist as it was part of the 10 year service and I wanted the Aux belt doing as well. The new tensioner was found to be faulty a week after the job. The garage changed it immediately. Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

Click Mechanic don’t give any indication on make of replacement parts and won’t do the job if you supply your own parts.
