United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Santorini Black

I can confirm this. Was speaking to my dad yesterday and he had commented that he is planning to keep his car and run it until it's dead because it won't be worth much.

I was surprised at this as he has a gorgeous 2010 Jaguar XJ, top spec at the time. All pristine. 81k on the clock. Think it cost him about £75k new.

Did a WBAC for his car and it came out at about £7300. I was stunned at that. I thought it would have been worth more.

So I did the same for my late 2010 FL2 GS with 81k on the clock. It came out about £4700. Considering the FL2 cost about a third of the XJ, Im amazed at the similarities in used prices. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

I don't find the drop in price for the premium Jaguars surprising, they are among the worst cars at holding their prices.
I'm partly in the financial quagmire I find myself in now due to buying an S Type and 2 XKRs amnd a crappy X type. The best time to pick these up is when they've lost most of their depreciation, and then budget 2K a year in maintenance, or if you are among the super rich you can buy them new and keep them ... or sell them...

A good Freelander 2 from 2013-2014 with fewer than 100,000 KMS is around 16,000 euros in Spain, which is coming close to the lower priced Discosports.

Given the problems on the early (and most other in fact) diesel ingenium engined DiscoS, I'd definitely plump for a late FL2 - I don't think the specs and potential problems make it an automatic choice, and although beauty is subjective, I still think the FL2 has the more authentic LR look.

What about you?

I agree on all counts, not keen on the newer rounded shape LRs Thumbs Up

Just reinsured my 2014 SD4 SE Tech - insurer valued it at £12800. This is in-line with a "3yr retained value" of 66% if using a simple exponential curve. Jules

it’s not just the FL2 values that are strong at the moment it’s the whole used car market.

Its not just cars. I think used bikes are holding their value especially as new ones have just gone up 15% and stocks of new ones are very low.

I was thinking of treating myself to a new Cube or Canyon endurance bike but the ones I fancied have just gone up £300.
I looked at Ribble too - nothing available until May. Jules
