Hi,
If it was my motor, then I would change the pump,
you'll know it's all been done, for me it's peace of mind. Thumbs Up

Buy a complete Gates kit off ebay - get your favourite garage to change it all for you.

Only reason I asked the question was I'd heard from someone that the water pump wasn't driven off the cam belt on the later deisel engines.
No brainer to change water pump as usual if it's still driven off the cam belt.

I only buy direct from Land Rover as i'm in the, "sold at cost scheme", so every part on my car has a bill to prove only Land Rover parts fitted.
That may cost me a little more but if I come to sell in the future, I hope to recover that cost and hopefully will make it more saleable.

They are talking rubbish. The TD4/SD4 engine has not fundamentally changed much during the production of the FL2 - the water pump is driven by the cambelt. Jules

I think it depends who you sell it to and how old it will be when you do. A doubt a garage would care . Jules

You can kidd yourself into believing that, but no garage is going to give a damn where and what parts are fitted.
Most of the time they won’t even look at a service record to see what it says.
Gates kits are quality items.

If your having a cam belt done you should do the water pump and the idlers.
I would imagine the new belt 'could' put extra stress on a warn water pump or idlers and then, at least, you would have to do it again, or at worst, it could be the the head!

Thank you, confirmed what I thought, obviously will be changing the water pump and all other related items.

Also consider replacing the front crankshaft and camshaft seals at the same time. It only takes a few minutes and they are reasonably cheap.

Are you doing it yourself?

My son once had a Renault Clio, when he bought it the dealer changed the cam belt. About a year later the water pump failed and threw the belt with disastrous consequences for the valves. The mechanic who fixed the engine told me that he had rarely seen an actual broken belt but he had seen quite a few engines where the idlers or water pump had failed and thrown the belt with the same result. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
