Jolting from release of brake

Hello,

This issue has developed today on my 2013 FL HSE,

When on a traffic light holding the brake compressed and then releasing it to go, this in turn causes the car to jolt violently before it starts to move off as normal. Issue only happens on a stand still stop, when slowing down to almost stand still and then going again there is no issue.

I'm not sure whether it's sticky brakes, a gearbox issue (maybe it's skipping gear) or something else. I've experimented with easing my foot off the brake more (even though this hasn't been an issue before) and that seems to help a bit, I start crawling before giving it any gas, there's still a jilt but not as violent.

sounds like a sticking caliper. Do you have the electric handbrake? I would be looking at making sure that each caliper can slide freely. You might find that one pad out of a pair of pads on a caliper is worn down more than the other which will be a clue. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yes it's an electric handbreak, went for a short drive today and before setting off I put it on and off a few times, felt the peddle didn't depress as much as it used to. However on the few stops the issue seemed to have gone

Had this issue with mine then one day got out the car after a run & the O/S rear brake was really hot, the electric calliper was jammed on,£100 got me a reconditioned one, so good idea to check for really hot brakes after a run.

Summer seems to have ended in the UK after a good few weeks.

Switching the handbreak on and off 4-5 times before my journey seems to have solved it for now, or the FL just healed itself... Very Happy

I might chance it till its next service (spring next year)

Yes thanks Alex, it's booked in next Thursday to an indi garage 75 squid + vat. Have to wait a bit as he has a lot of work on at the moment... The hatfield official dealership has some trouble with their emails or something but I seriously doubt it's going to be any cheaper. they've come back with 174 squid so nearly 100 pound more

Can't believe the last owner put 70k miles on the thing and didn't get it sorted.

There was a poster in the thread you linked that posted the technical bulletin for the issue. I'll attach it to this thread as I had trouble finding the correct topic myself.
