Consequences of battery disconnection

Battery disconnected for charging. Battery connected, and now SRS and TPM lights are on and remote handset buttons do not work.

Very odd. I put in a new battery and there were no issues at all. How long was the car without power?

My FL2 has been sitting on the drive for 7 weeks - will be interesting to see if it starts Jules

Silly question but have you measured the actual battery voltage in situ ? Presumably there was a good reason for removing the battery in the first place. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

I said disconnected, not removed. It was disconnected because I wanted to attach a float charger overnight. I had not done so since I bought the car. The battery voltage is correct (before and after). Already tried a hard reset (disconnect again, jumper the two battery cables together, wait a few minutes, reconnect again) and that did not work. that is what caused the fault in the first place. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

Hmm. TPMS, SRS and Key Handset all come into the main computer on the same connector. A clue, Sherlock. I think the connector got dislodged somehow. Will check tomorrow AM. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

You do not need to disconnect the battery to charge it. If you do disconnect the battery, & I have done it a handful of times of varying duration while working on the car. The only thing that needed fixing was the time on the clock.

My first guess is a battery issue. How old is the battery?

The batteries in the keys probably need replacing as well. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Just for your information LR do not recommend joining the battery terminals together anymore to carry out a hard reset, correct procedure is just to disconnect the battery and leave disconnected for 20 minutes.

The only time before that when I tried to charge the battery, something was wrong with the system after disconnecting the charger (without disconnecting the battery terminals). The car was idling horribly rough for a few minutes. I tried starting and restarting. It wouldn't help, so I went to do something else. When I came back some 20 minutes later it had settled down. This time it didn't do that when I reconnected the terminals. Maybe this car is possessed. Who knows. I don't how old the battery is, but it holds a good charge and tests correctly.

The battery in the key handset is maybe two months old, that I replaced myself and had been working perfectly. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

One other symptom is that when I disconnect the terminals (neg first, then pos) and then reconnect them (pos, then neg) when I touch the neg to the battery there is a spark, not very big, but it's there, with a tiny bit of smoke. That was unexpected. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas
