I get a spark every time, there is a lot of electrics on a LR.

Recently my neighbours battery appeared to be ok, but it turned one cell was leaking. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Did you wait for vehicle to shutdown completely before disconnecting battery? All the modules need to have shutdown and the BCM needs to have gone to sleep. Hazard light switch illumination shows when it’s gone to sleep, when the backlight illumination has gone out (15 minutes approx but can be longer) it’s safe to disconnect the battery. Maybe try a reset using this procedure, ignition off, key removed, allow to shutdown properly, disconnect battery for twenty minutes and then reconnect.

Absolutely correct. ensure all doors are closed, lights are off, etc., etc. prior to reconnection.
Have done this a couple of times without issue. Guy Pensa

Yesterday (as we won’t be using the FL2 for a few months it appears) I connected a solar 2.4watt charger to the battery, didn’t bother disconnecting as it seems to be all fine as it is.

Be happy to hear of any issues people may have had doing this over a period of time?

And yes, the charger has a diode system for charging. Regards

Found it. Loose connector at the top of the ECM. Reseated it and all is well. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

Always good when a thread has a good outcome and the OP does a follow up post. Thumbs Up With lots of threads you never get to find out what was causing the issue! Big Cry

The only time before that when I tried to charge the battery, something was wrong with the system after disconnecting the charger (without disconnecting the battery terminals). The car was idling horribly rough for a few minutes. I tried starting and restarting. It wouldn't help, so I went to do something else. When I came back some 20 minutes later it had settled down. This time it didn't do that when I reconnected the terminals. Maybe this car is possessed. Who knows. I don't how old the battery is, but it holds a good charge and tests correctly.

Isn't the initial poor idling a normal consequence of the ECU remapping the engine as a result of the power down? This used to be more common for the first few minutes especially on petrol engines but perhaps some newer ECUs have an internal standby battery 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Just a thought but if we know our vehicles will be off the road for a few months it might be worth doing a SORN and getting the road tax back (I taxed mine for the year about two weeks ago!), same goes if your insurance is due any time soon. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I taxed mine two weeks ago as well. I did consider the SORN option but then again I may need it in an emergency. As for insurance, as long as you have off road parking and are confident you definitely won’t need it you will save.

On another note I subscribe to Premier Player tv to watch PRO14 rugby. I went online to cancel it as there is no sport at the moment. I was offered a reduced price of £1.99 a month for two months instead of the usual £11.99 to keep the account open. I took them up on it because I thought if everyone cancels then they might not be able to come back. My son tells me his Judo club is doing the same.

..... making sure its one of the sockets that is permanently live, not switched through iginion.

Alternatively a 50W solar panel on the roof, which has maximum sun catchment.

It is the large box with several connectors behind the glove box. Maybe I got the initials wrong, could be ECU?

I honestly don't know how it came loose. The only theory I have is that at some point someone disconnected it, did not fully re-seat it again and it came loose due to vibration, pothole, who knows. I've seen this happen before, as far back as when I worked on Marine Corps transport helos in the 80's. Sometimes canon plugs would not be turned until they fully locked, so they worked until they worked themselves loose.

Properly seated the reality is that connector is solid and should not have come loose, period. 2008 US LR2 SE, 6-cyl gas

That’s interesting you’ve mounted the panel dead level, years ago I was involved with a solar panel test on a very early development EV we found that roof panels (or any other horizontally mounted) gathered a lot more dirt than one with a slight (even 3-4 degrees) mounted, after much investigation it was found any rain or dew attracted dust which when the water dried stuck, when there was even a slight angle the water flowed off to a great extent (the panel were all polished with a hydrophobic chemical, now called Rain-X)......made a huge difference to power output after only a few weeks in this country, well Germany also! Regards
