Powerful Uk do the tailgate handle in primer for £99. They even have a fitting guide which I used to fit mine.
A body shop could sort out your original tailgate and fit a new facelift handle and colour match it to your vehicle. Would probably be the cheapest option.
Or, as a quicker alternative, the facelift handle may even cover the rust . Just treat it to stop it getting worse . Get the handle painted the correct colour and away you go. Personally I'd just live with the tinted glass showing it's age for the time being. They do come up new on ebay from time to time for around £60 - £100.

Handle on mine was £75. Very close colour match so didn't get it repainted. Rear glass was new, £65 off of ebay and £40 fitted by a local mobile windscreen fitter.

At 111 miles away I would drive to collect it, probably cheaper than courier and safer, take your tools and fit it there. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

In Cyprus maybe.
But in uk it’s very cold and most of the forum members are aged 80plus and cannot work in minus 10 degrees which is the average temperature in GB

But if he has a trailer then easier to collect

all very valid suggestions . . . .Mowog . . . .only 64 but have a body like an 80 year old, arthritis makes tackling anything my self very very difficult / impossible.

The tiredness that comes with the said problem also limits me to at most to 100 miles a day for a journey, mornings only !

No trailer (either for sale or rent) Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter no towbar fitted anyway.

Viewed an indus coloured Discovery today very very close to zermatt in my opinion.

Many thanks to all for their input, if I decide on definitely going ahead I will let you know, I have a nagging doubt which I need to overcome Whistle 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

Managed to knock the seller down by £30 to £140 . . . for the complete tailgate, courier to pickup and deliver tomorrow if all goes right.

Has anyone had experience of replacing a freelander 2 tailgate? I may try it myself with a helper Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter . . . .I am guessing release the electric cables, then the shockers then the 2 bolts on each hinge ? I can reccomend Shiply, we had a good quote via them to collect our Freelander from the seller as I am unable to drive at the present time, price was £120 and distance was 86 miles. Car was collected on time and delivered to us on time the price included insurance. Thumbs Up
I will definitly use Shipley again
Cheers

Though I live in Cyprus at the moment, it ain't that warm mostly in single figures at sea level and -2 to -5 in the mountains, you would need to do a very circuitous route to do a 111 mile run in one direction, I assumed that most owners would be in the 55 to 80 age group, I am at the top end, and would give it a go, may hurt for a few day after Laughing Will a tail gate fit inside, not flat but with the rear seats down I would think so. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I’ve just swapped one on for a later type with the chrome handle as I bought a freelander that had been rammed into the back . Think I did it the most difficult way tbh by leaving the hinges on the car as the bolts are harder to remove . Better way is to remove top portion of rear rubber seal remove plastic hinge covers then both rear interior grab handles and lower headlining to get access to the bolts going up into the hinges also the multi plug for tailgate electrics . It’s definitely a 3 man job one at each side and one with the bolts. I had to make slight adjustments to make a good fit and equal gaps etc , but really pleased with result .

Thanks Tigertim, did you disconnect the wiring loom from the tailgate or from the car?

Hi I disconnected the wiring from each component in the tailgate and re threaded it into newer tailgate but it would have been easier to just access the Multi plug under headlining . My car is 2009 and tailgate I put on is off a2011 everything is the same although I did upgrade the wiper arm for a more modern look Tim

Thanks Tim, I really think I got a bargain, it was £170 for complete tailgate, I knocked him down to £140.

I simply didnt like the rust around the old style handle and quite fancied the new handle which on its own was at one time £170 on powerful Uk . . .now got much better rear glass as well plus a clear brake light, plus the LR badge on mine was all knackered.

I could now strip my old rusty one and sell the spoiler, the wiper motor, the wiring looms, the brake light and even the rusty
tailgate itself at a knock down price.

Sadly though I need my garage to fit it, I cant manage it . . . I dont have 2 friends . . . Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
