Dieselgate rolls on for UK customers

Dieselgate rolls on for UK customers where VW continues to argue against them in the UK
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-50631823

Severe penalties have been applied to VW including :
being fined 2.8 billion USD in USA
being fined 1 billion Euro in Germany
in Germany a top executive was sentenced to 7 years for his involvement
recently in Australlia VW was fined 125 million AUD

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-50862356

The total cost of dieselgate to VW so far is in excess of 33 billion USD and millions of cars have been recalled worldwide.

However in the UK, VW seems to arguing that the wrong doing which it has admitted to in many countries is not wrong here. So the litigation continues. A judgement is hoped for in the first quarter of 2020

VW/VAG were once held in high respect but it has shown contempt for its customers, in designing specific software to give false information relating to the normal performance of its VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda diesel engines . Plus I think its fair to say that VW cars are generally average now. Jules

VW have largely got away with it here in the UK and it doesn’t seem to have done anything to hurt their market share. Talk to people under 25-30 and it’s a highly desirable brand. We’ve even got our “green aware” current generation royal family actively promoting their products.

I don’t know how VW managed it Question

I am part of the class action group (although it’s not called that in the UK) and recently had that very same update regarding the litigation, things are moving but very slowly.......the UK appears to be in a unique position, and not easily covered by what some would call “logic” regarding a lawful outcome.

As stated above the rest of the world has decided VW did do deliberate wrong, but here in the UK....... Censored

Bloody typical. Regards

David

She had to give the contract up on that one pretty quickly after some “internal politics”:

Apart from being a tourist attraction and soap opera for the red tops, isn’t their purpose to be skilled diplomats, promoting the country’s international standing? Or are they just a bunch of London centric, Audi driving, freebie driven, self centred, hoorays?

I’m not so sure anymore...

According to the FT. Six more VAG managers have been charged with fraud ...by failing to disclose the existence of cheat devices. Plus 3 more for aiding and abetting in causing 9 million vehicles to be illegally registered.

A further 32 employees are being investigated.

Shareholders are seeking 9billion Euro damages.

However VAG sold a record 10.97m vehicles in 2019; implying its customers dont care that the company conned them about the pollution levels of their cars.

With Boeing in mind, I guess if VAG made cars that suddenly crashed and killed people then people would be more reluctant to purchase them. Jules

'Class Action' takes years .... sometimes 10's of years. Brits won't wait that long for recourse.

I do remember a Princess being quoted as saying "Sex is good for one, but it's better with two"

and the Princess who thought 7up was a soda, until she met the Coldstream Guards.

Then there was the TV reporter who asked a young lady "why are you a prostitute ?"
Her reply was "to make ends meet"

My two Penn'orth on this whole fiasco.......YES, VAG were very naughty and caught with their pants down, and YES they should compensate where due.

What has become a disgusting outrage over the whole saga however, is the cynical opportunity that the EU and its member state Government's (ours included), who have made this into something far more than it needs to be, and used it as a Yard stick to beat the motorist (yet again) with, to appease the Green fcuckers and hammer Joe-public into paying yet more VED to keep their (cleaner than petrol) vehicles on the road.

The whole episode stinks, quite literally, of Government fraud on a mass scale. Yet we the diesel drivers who were encouraged to switch 20 years ago are now getting caned financially to appease a gob-shyte bunch of head banging hippy's (Greens) who really don't see the bigger picture. (And don't even get me started about the utter rubbish being spouted about the PHEV vehicles....gram for gram they are the worst of the lot!)

Whilst VAG and its Directors deserve everything that they get, so do numerous Politicians. But as usual, they are immune....

Well I know Harry needs another job now but re-instating British Leyland is going too far, unless of course they make a model for the Canadian market? Rolling with laughter Regards
