Snorkel has arrived.

Received my snorkel/raised air intake today - too late to fit it, unfortunately.

I'll be taking pics of the installation and will post as soon as I have done it.

Just placed on the vehicle:

Does nothing for me BUT it works well with your larger aspect ratio tyres and the body styling pack. I think having it painted in gloss black would make it look like a factory optional extra.

Raises the level of the air intake to avoid anything (water/dust etc) getting sucked in to the system.

[quote="Bobupndown"] I personally think that is one ugly bit of plastic does nothing for the looks!

Again, it's not about aesthetics. It's about avoiding damage to the engine from Censored getting sucked in through the side vent.

I have owned 34 various Land Rover's over the years and modified most (except the Military vehicles which I've restored instead) to varying degrees to suit the type of off roading I used to do, be that extreme off roading at pay-and-play sites, or forest rallies.
That means protecting as much of the vehicle as possible from any off road damage that may occur, and that includes the air intake system.
The Freelander 2 has far more potential than most forum owners know, or will ever use. I intend to push mine as far as I can.
I'm not interested in adorning my vehicle with "bling". Everything needs to be done for a purpose.
It's not just my car, it's a hobby. A hobby I've had for 25+ years.

I was thinking about maybe having it painted - along with the modified bumper I have ( Oh, the humanity ! He's modified a bumper too Shocked Thud ) . I haven't made up my mind yet.

Thanks for the explanation. I couldn’t imagine the situation where water would be getting into the wing vent air intake, but you’re right, I’d not be using my FL2 in such extreme circumstances.

Good luck with your snorkelling!

Great! Very Happy
Mine is on it´s way , probably in the shipping terminal already.
As the Swedish post service is most slow and unreliable it will take longer time to send it from the airport terminal to my town (50km), than to ship it from Brazil to Sweden.

The air has to flow from further but likely cleaner more direct air flow. Seal up any leakage in the original section of the intake, maybe a short stout one way hose for drainage from rain. Enjoy man!

There is or was another mud plugging enthusiast on here who, if I recall correctly, fabricated his own FL2 snorkel. Can’t remember his username though.

Looks great Thumbs Up
Either as is or painted will look good and I wish people would remove their “blinkers” or “negative” attitude and realise just because it’s called a “snorkel” that it’s doesn’t always mean water!
In Australia they’re std fit and it AINT FOR WATER!!

IMO that looks really really good. nicely following the lines of the A pillar and again IMO looking like a factory option (think the Defender/D3/D4 genuine RAI)

The problem with the standard FL2 air intake (again IMO) is that its on the nearside where all the roadside puddles gather so inevitably you will ended up drawing some water in through the wing vent, especially after recent weather.
You dont need to go off roading or wading to drag water into your air box, and some of the pipework is material, with a paper filter.... recipe for disaster in some cases

RealBeale, what are these potentials you speak of?

Really like the snorkel but wondering is there much wind noise off it?
