Basically the potential to go where the "big boys" in their Defenders can go.
The biggest problem with the F2 is ground clearance - or lack of it ! By fitting a lift kit coupled with over-sized tyres I've certainly helped in this department. The merits of the snorkel/raised air intake have been stated above meaning I can go deeper without worrying about ingestion of water coming through the side vent. The underbody protection prevents damage to the drive-train meaning crossing terrain that may be rocky or have ruts is now driveable with less chance of getting stuck .
I can now drive in places that a standard F2 can't. Or at least I will once the new full length underbody skid pan is completed (in development) . The Mantec stuff is ok for green laning but not for proper off roading.
The bumper I've modified gives a better angle of attack over a standard bumper - the HST front end will go as it sits far too low - even with the lift, so it's counter productive to leave it on. The rear bumper with the HST skirt on isn't a problem so this will remain - however, I will be having a new stainless exhaust made with a shallower back box to aid the departure angle.
When I lifted my first Freelander - a V6, and added oversized tyres, I had more ground clearance than my "standard Defender". I had a 2" lift with 205/80/16 tyres (Defender size) . The lowest point of the Defender being the diff.

This shows the difference in height against a standard F1:

Mine arrived on Friday. Haven't been able to do a test fit yet. Look forward to your pics, esp in relation to the orientation of the larger ancillary piece. ALso your choice of fastener - I thought it would have one included.

Oh, for Bob, it's fibreglass, not plastic.

Started the installation today. Meant to just have bit of a play but one thing lead to another - you know how it is.
I'm stumped by the airbox connection and the permeable fibre section that's attached, shown below.

The fibre tube and plastic ends are bonded together and run under the headlight platform.
Any ideas how to get this section out?
I'll cut it tomorrow if I need to, but it'd be good not to do that.

Thanks fellas MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Looks like a bumper off job to me, then remove the bracket the headlight sits on. Even then, the flexy tube provided looks too big to sit under the headlight bracket in the way the original pipework does, which is flattened in this area due to limited space. Also, the inside diameter of the new pipe is too small to fit the parts provided. Nor will it provide a waterproof seal when attached, the jubilee clip will crush the fibreglass fitting too if done up tight enough.
I've been looking at alternative solutions. On my F1's I used stainless steel pipes and silicone hoses and it was watertight. However, I'm not going to spend any more on this set-up so have come up with a compromise. I have no intentions of "wading" any deeper than the recommended depth for the vehicle. As I originally bought this snorkel as a raised air intake rather than to go swimming, I will modify what is there and us the existing LR pipework. I only need to stop mud and crap entering the side vent. After all, I've no intention of turning my Freelander in to a U-Boat. So I think what I have planned will work for me.

Yes, that sounds feasible. I'll persevere a bit with what has been provided, I'll see if hot water makes the pipe a bit elastic. Otherwise I may cut off the fibre section and attach the supplied hose to the flattened original airbox connector. It'll work somehow.
Disappointed it's fibreglass rather than plastic. The jubilee clip is just to provide some friction rather than sealing I think, Joao uses silicone sealant
Still it gives us a base to work with.
Thanks mate. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Either as is or painted will look good and I wish people would remove their “blinkers” or “negative” attitude and realise just because it’s called a “snorkel” that it’s doesn’t always mean water!
In Australia they’re std fit and it AINT FOR WATER!!
It’s all about getting air intake out of the dust/dirt!

Indeed, "Raised Air intake" is a better description than "snorkel" which implies water. Jules

Love it!

The FL2 is a fantastic vehicle, and like most Land Rovers it suits so many different uses. Good on ya!

Very Happy

Got it!

Undid the bolts securing the right upper bumper. That enabled me to work it forward and access one bolt on the left of the headlight tray, then a bolt at the front of the right side of the headlight tray.
The whole plastic tray slides forward and tilts up at the rear so the airbox connector can be worked out through the wheel well.

Best news is that when the tray is back in position the supplied pipe is a perfect size for the void underneath it. Yippee.

Onward and upward comrades. MY11 SD4 SE Auto

Sounds great. I've gone down a completely different route and modified the snorkel to enable me to utilize the original ducting from the wing vent. Also the snorkel does not fit exactly flush to the wing or A pillar despite numerous attempts to get the best compromise by jiggling it around- something else I will be addressing when I have the time.

Having done a little bit of river wading and then looking on photos at how close the water can get to the vent even in shallow water. I'm interested in one of these.
But I have a question to the guys who have already received/fitted theirs.
Do you think the ducting part that runs up the A pillar could also be used to run a feed through for roof lights?

Another mod I'm considering but have put off by not having a suitable run for the cabling.

One air intake line possibly for sale. Genuine LR. Used lightly.

It's on! A couple of things to sort out but the Brazilian RAI is installed for testing.

It is only secured with the 3M double sided tape it came with, not sure how this will go in summer. Therefore the race tape may stay on for a bit. The attachment of the connecting piece between the airpipe and snorkel remains to be proved also.

The kit worked out pretty well mostly. I had to get a silicone reducing pipe to make it work.

Will see if I can put the video together.

DEG5Y, I wouldn't think so. I'd look at the B pillar for that. MY11 SD4 SE Auto
