Did you reset the self learning transmission control unit software and complete the relearn routine after the oil change?

Plug on with a suitable diagnostic tool and run the routine.

I don't think there is a way to clear the learning without diagnostics.

Pulling the battery won't make the blindest difference in this case I'm afraid

I think this will help, also use internet or search on FL2 site' as I am sure I have seen the instructions for recalibrating autobox after maintenance or repair on the web.

So much to learn about all the freakin' electronics controlling everything in these vehicles. I had no idea that the 6 speed auto transmission should be electronically recalibrated after a fluid change. I guess I really need to search better and find a good LR independent or spend the time and money to get a really capable programmer and software for the LR2. Either way, it's a learning curve and I am still not yet on the steep incline.

Look on the bright side my Disco Sport has even more complicated electronics and LR haven’t got it sorted let alone the guys on the forums.

Can’t be that bad though we are going looking at a newer DS tomorrow - out of warranty and scared the balance shafts will die and wreck the engine. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

give this a try freelander 2 aisin warner tf-80sc 6 speed auto
1. Insert key fob in dash
2. Turn on ignition by pressing the start button WITHOUT foot on brake (I.e. Don't start the engine)
3. Press accelerator to the floor for 30 seconds
4. Release accelerator pedal leave key in dash, and press the start button to switch off ignition...wait 30 seconds
5. Start car as normal, and drive it hard for a few miles.

Does doing that 'clear' the gearbox settings so it recalibrates itself ?

From what I read the auto gearbox is continually relearning its change points, albeit slowly, and only when the oil is fully warmed up. So it would seem that even if you do not carry out re-adaption it will eventually sort itself out.

I am not convinced that "driving it hard" is the answer, but getting the car warmed up on a mild/warm day, and driving normally allowing all up and down changes to take place many time might be.

Try googling "aisin warner tf 80sc 6 speed automatic reset re-adaption" as many cars use this auto gearbox.

Try these links to the Volvo version, for further info

IIRC you could reset the autobox on my BMW 3 series (E91) that way too. Jules

It is very hard to track down a proven method that doesn't use the diagnostic tool to re-adapt the auto-gearbox.

What I have found so far seems to indicate that the accelerator BMW method is more to do with calibrating the throttle response for max travel etc. (it reads a bit similar to that of re-calibrating windows or sunroof)

Is there someone on this forum who works at an authorised garage that can give us the correct method?

see these links (BMW Forum)

Somewhere I found a 3,000+ page Freelander 2 Repair Manual 2006-2010 and in the section on the Automatic Transmission/Transaxle - Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill there is no mention of any calibration/adaption being required. The only reference to the use of diagnostic equipment is in relation to checking the temperature of the gear box oil before using the level plug to drain off any excess oil. I suspect this notion is another one of these old wives' tales like adding a trailer module modifies the gearbox shift points!
