intermittent driver door locking problem

car coming up to 12 years old but still going strong, by chance I noticed the drivers door does not always lock, could have been like this for ages, always believed the industrial clunk sound was locking everything properly with no need to manually check.

It seems if I sit in the car and hit the dash unlock/lock 3 or 4 times, then exit car and press lock button, all is well.

Is this a sign of the drivers door lock mechanism failing or something simpler ?

Its ok to put up with but slightly annoying having to check door is locked and kill alarm as quick as possible to retry.

Any thoughts ? (same effect on single or double locking) 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

Try a good spray with GT 85 or similar down the window side (use the straw it comes with) and any other holes near the door locks. You never know your luck it may ease off. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

sounds like a good idea, I feel its not much of a fault as it always (up to now), can eventually be locked, worst case is 4th attempt , but like I said jiggling the dash unlock/lock buttons then locking seems to work first time.

Thanks to both for help. 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

I had problems with my rear passenger door lock on my last freelander. Not always unlocking or locking. Took the door card off and give it a good battering with silicone oil using the straw and over the next week or 2 it was working fine again. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Sounds like the same problem I had - I replaced the locking mechanism:

thanks for all the input, don't have GT85, tried a blast of WD40 without straw on door mechanism. Then tested the door, it opened and closed and locked 8 consecutive times, no problem, so hoping that's perhaps done the trick. WD40 dries out after freeing off hence you need a spray with both qualities. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Exactly the same problem with my passenger door lock.

Locks fine in the warm weather, but not when it's cold.

Leads me to think it might just need a spray rather than replacing the mechanism. Steve

Intermittent locking problem still there as expected Big Cry
I reckon this is the part I need to fix the locking problem, I like the idea of £1.60 for an internal motor fix , but at £26 for a whole actuator part its not that expensive, online prices range from £26 to over £90 for the same part . . .

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-LAND-ROVER-...3550420024

can anyone confirm this part, as there seems to be 2 options, a one plug type and a 2 plug type, I assume mine is one plug ??

I ordered the part and am giving this job a go, I am at the point where you detach the window from the mechanism, having watched the youtube videos etc.

Is there one white 'bracket' that holds the window or 2 (white and yellow), there's a bloke in the USA on youtube who thinks the yellow is accessible via the teardrop shaped inspection hole near the lock actuator, then there is this quote from this site 6 years ago . . . .
quote : - "You can clearly see the white clip on the window reg through the speaker hole, if you drop the window by a few inches you can easily get your hand into the door (in front of the glass between the outer skin) and lever the white clip with your fingers which will allow you to free the glass and lift it up. I used duct tape to hold it in place " (courtesy Captain Worm)

the quote suggest just removing glass from the one white clip . . . .

Any ideas here would be appreciated . . . 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

Its quite a while since I replaced the rear lock but I seem to think there was two yellow clips. I followed the instructions on here lower the window and you should get access via the speaker hole.

The clip has a lip on the top just push or pull it forward and push the glass up as the same time
