Compared to new vehicle depreciation, the costs of maintaining a known and trusted older vehicle fade away.

Yes, good discounts are to be had on new car purchases, and PCP deals keep the showrooms busy, but depreciation on diesels together with concerns about oil dilution, and the pace of change in the auto industry towards electrification, make me think this is a good time to hold onto and look after a vehicle I’m perfectly happy with?

Couldn't have put it any better myself. I have no desire to change mine - it's immaculate, mechanically sound and owes me nothing now.

I laughed this lunchtime at my brother - his DS HSE Luxury registered January 2017 was over £51k new including options. Fast forward two years and 21000 miles since then, his dealer has offered him £24k for it. I've never known a Land Rover depreciate as heavily as that, and this is before the new one comes out this summer.....then what's going to happen to the residuals I wonder?! Rolling Eyes Glad I'm not in his shoes on this one.

This arrived from LR this morning, has the price dropped? I was expecting a bill for about £950 14 reg XS

My Quote arrived today and it was the same prices as this.

I will take the £640 option as I have AA cover already in a joint policy with my wife (and her car).

As it is very comprehensive (and covers MOT faults as well - £50 excess) I think it is well worth having. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

Which is exactly what I did, and apart from a split turbo hose (£132 fitted), nothing else has failed.

By my reckoning, I'm just under £2500 up by not taking out the cover to date... MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

when I bought my latest FL2 3 months ago they included 3 months Platinum warranty cover with Warranty Wise, with the option to extend there and then if I wanted to.
I chose not to and the dealer said to give them a ring in 3 months if I wanted to and they would get me a good renewal price.

so today I got a letter from WW advising my initial cover was coming to an end and to call them for a competitive renewal quote.
£650 for the year for their 06/60 cover (same as Platinum top level cover) and that included a 30% discount for renewing with no gap in cover periods

rang the dealer I bought it from to see what their price would be..... £477 for the same level of cover

although ive had a bad experience with WW in the past, the dealer price was too good not to go for as other people have said WW have been ok with them, no better or worse than any other warranty provider really.

I don't know if I am just getting older but a few years ago I would not have considered a vehicle warranty. It's only since owning FL2's that I have decided to keep them only on extended warranty (and it has been necessary at times). Similarly my wife's old Peugeot 207 had no warranty and I fixed things myself. She now has a Suzuki Swift that is loaded with all sorts of techie stuff and turbos etc and I will certainly be buying extended warranties for that one when the time comes.
I think it comes down to the value you put on "peace of mind" and if you need to save the money. From experience though I will only go with manufacturers' warranties. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

LR Extended wont cover mine, even though its been main dealer serviced from new and is reasonable mileage, but its 7 years old in September so that could be their get out clause.

I wouldn't have ANY modern car these days without warranty if I can help it, expensive things go wrong all too often on nearly all makes of cars.

Classic example of why you are better off with the money in your piggy bank!!!
Still under original 2 year approved and took Florrie in today as * gearbox fault.. reduced Traction * light back on Twisted Evil so out they come and chirp up " the haldex pump gone but as they (JLR) might not pay the 2.5k to replace it we will change the oil and seals for you" !!!

Look says I, you just sent me a quote for 12 months extended warranty for £790 when you are trying to work yourselves out of the Censored original warranty get your act together Mad

Keep your money in your pockets as they will find something in the small print to get out of any claims Censored bandits.

Better now thanks. Thumbs Up If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

Years and years ago I used to specialise in the sale of Nova SR’s.
I sold them with a 12 month warranty from Warranty Holdings, which I provided at my expense.
After a year or so of doing this, I found out that the rep from the warranty firm was having 3 or 4 exotic holidays a year.
Then found out that customers who had warranty claims where mostly having them rejected.

Put two and two together and realised that I should offer my own warranty, keeping the money I was spending on warranties.

VOILA!

Instant increase in my profits............Very few warranty claims!

Mind you, that was Nova SR’s Whistle

2.5k to change a Haldex Pump.... they really are having a laugh especially as they clearly state that replacement parts might be reconditioned and not brand new... who do they think their mechanics (I wont call them technicians!!) are FFS... they need to seriously have a good hard look at their labour rates.

but yes ALL warranty firms will try and wriggle out of paying up, the same as home insurance firms, or life insurance firms. Its all money making scam for them. Which is why I wouldn't pay huge amounts for the warranty on mine, I don't class £473 for 'full' cover excessive. after the first year I wont bother again.

Agree Rog but in one breath JLR say ' our haldex are a non serviceable part' then when they want to save pennies (to them) the haldex suddenly becomes serviceable.

Well will wait to see what they say but I want it replaced under the approved used warranty any nonsense and the £400 for service is going elsewhere to Very Happy If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
