Independent Servicing

Has anyone used an Independent in the North West area? The local dealer wanted £430 for second service!

Yes but think of how happy the mechanic's children will be with all the toys they can buy with your money!

Very Happy

for a hours trip across the M62, inc loan car

Check out Guy Salmon in Leeds they quoted £325 IIRC when i was ringing round

Get a confirmation on the price and tell your local dealer that for the cost of the diesel it what you'll be doing as you have a appointment in leeds so you don't mind the trip,

I am sure they match the price Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

just bear in mind that the dealer service includes the paintwork inspection (a quick look round) to give you the warranty on that, independant dealers don't/can't do this Evil or Very Mad Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

yeh but he doesn't dent the doors or the bonnet like most dealers seem to do and he also uses a L/R service checksheet- plus I can walk round the car while he's doin it and ask him to check this and that etc.

If you fancy a trip to the North East I can recommend Team Valley Land Rover, charged me #223 for a 1st service and did a good job inc an insured courtesy car & cleaned my car too. They're fully Land Rover authorised too, I'd be interested in what they charge for a 2nd service myself!

Its the actually paintwork warranty i was refering to to not the visual inspection for dents and dings Smile

buy not having it stamped, means they may not accept a claim on rust etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Just been ringing round for a 2nd service.
Armstrong Massey £383
Guy Salmon £330
Fourplus4 (big local indie) £290

Massey are way out - as we told them - even with the discount they came back with they're just not competitive. Shame as I like to stay with the one dealership but they just don't seem to be living in the real world.
Salmon is worth considering but I'm more tempted with the indie. I've used Merccare for the merc a few times and found them excellent and had no issues with the warranty - even got a goodwill repair out of warranty despite having them all over the service book so the old 'must use the dealer' fear factor doesn't apply.

Even £290 is a fair bit - anyone know why a 2nd service is so much more major?

Opinions, other ideas? 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

Interesting - they didn't seem too eager to match Salmons when we rang.
I thought I'd see how low I could go without leaving the LR fraternity. So, on the indie theme I thought I'd ring round a couple of other Leeds ones.
I found 2 more
Adventure 4x4 quoted me £215 and I'm waiting to hear from GreenOval.

Anyone used any of these guys? Anything anecdotal before I trust them with my baby?

On the basis that they're all the same really, £168 or even £115 at best, is a lot to pay for a dealer stamp.
I'm also thinking that I will keep the car for at least 5 years. I used JCT for the jeep for the first 2-3 years but in the end I couldn't justify the cost on a 5 year old car, especially as the work list racked up (timing belts etc) and it was serviced elsewhere. So, in the same vein, whilst dealer services seem relevant on my 2yr old fl2, they won't in another 2 years time and certainly won't figure in the resale value when it's 6, so who's kidding who?
why not start the way I mean to go on, and use a LR specialist?.
(clearly I won't go as far as to use a backstreet garage but all the specialists use proper LR parts and have access to LR data so unless they miss something, the end result should match the dealer). 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. gulp Shocked
They see our fl every 3-4 weeks too, due to the fact that they can't suss out the dodgy fuel guage. They're collecting it again on Tuesday to have yet another go (The mrs refuses to drive up there anymore) but sadly, at those prices they won't be doing the service. I dare say brakes will be a bit cheaper at the indie too - at least I hope so as a new set of tyres isn't very far away either Big Cry 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar.
