United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Orkney Grey

The proposed new Defender at c£50 grand is yet another example of LR getting it wrong. There won't be many folk wishing to go seriously off road having spent that sort of money so it will be aimed at Tweedy wives and posers.

Virtually all the ghillies and keepers on the Scottish estates and fisheries use Toyotas and i cant see their employers forking out an extra £10 grand or more for a LR.

I am one amongst many who have been priced out of the market by LR and will most likely be looking elsewhere, in the next year or so, when I change. Sad MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I wonder how the entry model will compete with this at £34,000?

I mean come on... also available as a van.... that's got to be a worthy rival to the traditional defender and a hell of a lot more reliable.

The Disco 5 is available as a VAN, look at the price difference between the Disco 5 base model and the van.

So what is it ? I assume that VAT element is reclaimable so its not in the headline price. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The JLR 'Jungle Linkedin Rumourmill'

Whilst we all believe the new Defender will be ALL Electric Cool

..... but What if it had TWO 'Motor Drives' .... one front axle and one back axle. Drive can be electronically coupled.

Looking into the JLR crystal ball, there is 'Quad Motor Drive', yes one electric motor per wheel. (makes it interesting for 6x6 conversions, especially the software).

Will keep posted. Thumbs Up

With a drive motor on each wheel traction control would be a doddle and no need for heavy drive trains and axles etc. which will also give the opportunity to use regenerative braking.

Wales 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Mauritius Blue

A photo has appeared online (twitter) of what seems to be the new Defender dash - not sure if I should post as a LR Comms and PR director has responded to it saying legal team are on the way.

it's not my photo before you ask and it could be fake but interesting none the less. Andrew

Ah its all over the place now so hardly a big secret any more - and might well be fake anyway..

For what it's worth think this looks OK - bit of a weird mix of high tech and utility but guess that's the way things are now anyway. Andrew
