United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Bali Blue

What market is this new Defender aimed at? I honestly think LR will miss out with this one. I was out shooting last Wednesday and the vehicles included Toyota/Isuzu/Mitsubishi truck cabs plus Polaris and Kawasaki mules. Will any of these owners go back to an over priced Defender, I doubt it. 11 GS Bali Blue
07 GS FL2. Usually muddy. Gone
Numerous LRs since 1963

A lot of those owners didn’t buy the last one. The Defender lost out to the Japs a long time ago, better equipped, more comfort, reliable and cheaper. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

We’re all so concerned about who it will appeal too. It will sell big time that’s all JLR are interested in being a company they want to shift more units that the predecessor did. Oh and here is a picture of it’s 22” alloy.

Roll on the comments on 22 alloys and off-roading now Thumbs Up

Don’t worry for those who will be buying one and taking if off-roading they will come in smaller sizes also Mr. Green

To be honest the Defender with 22s on will still knock the panse off a Freelander 2 off roading. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

I’ve said this before , the Defender was never a cheap vehicle . I bought my last new one in 1997 a County 90 station wagon. With a few bits of chequer plate and a tow bar on it I think it was a few shillings shy of £23000 list . By the wonder of the internet that is apparently £41,000 today . Of course now said new Defender will have all the usual electronic gizmos , and be subject to whatever Dick Turpin tax the government has added over the years . The cheapest vehicles in the showroom then were 90 vans at about £15000 -+ VAT , by today’s standards they were laughable .

So yes it’s going to be a pricey vehicle . When you look at the list prices of the nicely specced Toyota / Isuzu/ VW. etc king cab pickup trucks they do look appealing , that’s until you add on the VAT which of course private users have to pay . Then you will find nicely specced versions of those vehicles poking into the £40,000 + bracket

One of the ironies is that, whatever price we would previously have been asked to pay for it, it could also now be subject to tariffs when it comes in as an imported car. Buy it with an Ingenium engine (the most likely) and it will even be subject to two sets of tariffs! This could add several thousands to the price Sad

It does seem to have certain attributes that make it appealing, it looks like a LR and it has a square load entrance making it a utility vehicle, all it really needs is a split tailgate Whistle my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
