I haven’t seen a standard Rolex Stainless sports watch in a dealers window for a very long time. The demand always outstrips supply and they are always on back order so tell her to get on a waiting list . Undoubtedly it’s one of the few realistically attainable watches that you could get for your 40th , and wear and abuse daily for the next thirty years and not lose a whole lot of money . Sean Connery certainly made that watch iconic ! 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

2016 Subaru Outback SE 2.0 diesel SE Premium Lineartronic Sold 2024 after 8 years and 80k miles . Best Car I ever owned !

2023 Toyota Hilux invincible X 2.8 Auto .

There could be a reason for that 😀, you have quite a few very useful chaps down that way who used to be given Submariners as part of their standard kit. Then the MoD got stingy a few years back and started issuing Seiko instead of Rolex 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Saw a RMC ORC being transferred yesterday along the A38 towards Plymouth......give away that we are still at peace was the huge “ROYAL MARINE COMMANDO” written down the side in white letters....unless that’s the new scare tactics? Rolling with laughter Regards

I read that the Apple watch is the best selling watch in the World and costs around $90 to make, yet sells for more than 4 times that.

And the luxury traditional mechanical brands have even higher multiples. A watch that sells for £5,000 might cost less than £500 to make, with profit and especially advertising targeted at the aspirational making up the difference. Patek Philippe’s advertising campaign “you never actually own one” must rank with the most effective campaigns of all time.

So, is it a good investment when we can buy an accurate watch for £10? Or are we over susceptible to “premium” marketing?

Discuss Smile

PS: My description of good marketing is “selling goods that don’t come back to customers that do”. Take notice JLR!

Early Christmas present time. My hunt for a green dial watch that I absolutely love has finally concluded after much research. Inspired by the far out of my price range Rolex Submariner Hulk, I've been interested in green for some time.

Until recently, when I did some research into the brand, I didn't realise what a powerhouse Seiko are in watch circles and how well respected they are. Their new 5 sports range has been released and a jeweller told me that HQ in Japan cannot supply the demand.

I have contacted local dealers and several in London and although I can get other colours such as blue, this particular model is like hens teeth. The only place I can get one is via Chrono24 website from an authorised dealer in Germany. One showing on ebay but some recent negative feedback made me cautious.

Here it is:

^ no I'm afraid not. That's the 63K1 as opposed to the 61K1. Slightly darker green with gold detailing as opposed to silver. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

All is not what it seemed. I ordered from Chrono24 via trusted checkout and paid because it was showing as in stock at a dealer in Germany. Messages since received to say the watches haven't even left Japan yet and they are awaiting news.

Fortunately, a different watch in stock at Goldsmiths caught my eye and whilst it most certainly is not green, the blue dial won me over immediately and I like the style with the waves as it is one of their save the ocean range. Green watch on the back burner for now and refund sorted.

So this Saturday my early Christmas present will be collected (presuming I'm happy with it in the flesh) and the nato strap for my TAG that I ordered.

Managed a not too shabby £65 discount on voucher cloud too Thumbs Up

Here you go Doc.

Nice one.

I’ve got a birthday coming up in November plus Christmas. I think I’m going to ask for an Omega nato strap for my Speedmaster and a blue Cordura type strap for my Seamaster Pro. I’ll then have 3 straps per watch to mix them up a bit. A bracelet, nato and cordura for the SMPc and a bracelet, nato and leather for the Speedy. Different straps can give a watch a whole different look. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
