United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

to be honest its not been an issue but im looking at turbos and if my car is 118kw and the rest are 150-160 im not sure it makes a difference but £650 is an expensive mistake

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

with ref to a turbo failure there are a lot of good turbo specialists out there,my grandsons bmw 2lt needed one,i found a company not far away near Eastbourne, who did a 3 day turnaround with a 2 year warranty on it,all parts were uk sourced(no cheapo stuff from china etc)cost inc recorded delivey was £230.it came back like new and worked perfectly.
I personally would not buy a new one,but go for the above. Thumbs Up

Sorry to start this up again but I just noticed today that according to the Dutch RDW (SVA in UK?) my FL2 (a 2012 TD4 Auto) is of the LF type.

The VIN number of my car starts with SALFA2BC3CH.

No clue what is the difference with the FA type but many parts sold on ebay are not compatible when I select LF. Would be nice to know if these parts are really incompatible since parts compatible with LF type are harder to find.

the question here is where did the dutch rdw get this info from?surely not landrover, who,s dealerships don't have a clue what it means.

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

I asked a friend who works for JLR this is what he and a couple of other have come up with.

"Got it. The F is the model designation for Freelander (previously an L) the A is the class - these were the latest classes as of 2014 but they did change from time to time)"

"For some reason the letters were just reclassified. The A/F refers to 4 wheel drive with the exception of the america markets where it seems to be based on the spec. I'll have a read!"

hope this helps

Australia 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Stornoway Grey

As a newbie who found and joined your forum specifically to find an answer to this question, I thought I might pass on what (little) I discovered by phoning the Land Rover customer care centre here in Australia.
Whether it's true or not I don't know, but they said that the FA / LF type is identified by the 4th and 5th characters of the VIN number. Since my car (a Freelander 2 TD4 auto, mfr late 2010, MY 2011) has a VIN starting SALFA..., this suggests it is a type FA. (I certainly hope so, since I have used this info to order a replacement door lock from a UK supplier!)
However, doubts remain, since I note than someone on this thread – can't find the post now – suggests that there SALFA... car is a type LF.

The mystery, it seems, remains – unless someone else has a straightforward answer.

Had the same issues as the OP when I went to order parts.
The drop down menu asked if it was a LF or AF.
Skimmed through this thread and there didn't seem to be a conclusion. Confused

So consulted my V5C doc with view to obtaining my VIN number for reference.
I then noted that under Vehicle Detail/D.2/Type that it's listed as LF
(similar to grumsel's chart above)

So can't really see what all the cafuffle is about. Confused FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

Yugoslavia 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Lago Grey

Found this on the net:

It seams platform LF are only 118kW/160PS and all others are FA (?).

For my 2008 HSE TD4 (originating from Belgium), in the original ID paper, for D2.1 it states: LF
Also mentioned that it is 110kW.
However, on vindecoder.pl it says 118kW and 150PS !?!?!?
