Any news on when stop-start model will be out ? is it jan 2009 ? understand emissions are going to be lower is it worth hanging on for this model rather than buy new now ? Local dealer said factory trial LR2 stopped but didn`t start !!!  Electrician as a day job - Wanna be farmer at weekends !

There is in development a FL2 that will start and stop, basically you pull up at the traffic lights and it detects this and turns the engine off, but as soon as you want to drive off, the engine starts and you drive off without noticing it  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Apparently not, or so they are now telling us, depends how long you are in stationary traffic I guess , so in London for example your car will never start again all day, so lots of juice saved

Stop/start needs an upgraded starter motor etc to cope with all the extra use and start the car faster each use,also this feature is useless if you need the AC on  At work

I had a BMW 120d on rent a month or so back which had the stop/start system on it and was surprissed at how well it worked, and really did not expect it to be as smooth as it was. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back!

The other benefit of this is the CO2 figure is low meaning lower road fund licence. The BMW 120D is only £35 /year For a 2 litre diesel 170bhp  

Wow that sounds really interesting.. maybe Australia will get that technology in 10 years
or so

As far as I can see the CO2 reduction is the only reason for having stop start. As BMW have proved it can be very effective. The only point to keep in mind is that this is a switchable system (so I'm told) therefore it is possible to operate the car in a less efficient way than it was tested for CO2, just watch the government bods, they'll cotton on to this and push the VED saying it isn't as efficent as its claimed ..... Stornoway Grey GS ... I must admit, I thought that this was some smart land Rover invention that was being introduced this year - At least LR have made enough noise about it earlier this year. - Now you tell us BMW already is fitting the system to thier models  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.
