Your 2014 Freelander should have HB3 bulbs, not H7's! Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Using H7 headlight bulbs would explain why some don't last long if we're supposed to be using HB3's !

Just been online, typed in my reg. on Halfords and Eurocarparts site and came up with H7 (477)

typed my reg. on ABD.co.uk site and came up with HB3.

Im going down to the dealer tomorrow, hoping they can throw some light on the matter Laughing

Had exactly the same in our daughters 13 plate FL2....replaced them with a pair of expensive Halfords ones and tonight less than two weeks later one of them blew....slight nuisance but in reality no problem really or so I thought....

Got out the old ‘spare’ and fitted that...which immediately blew!
Now it’s Sunday night and she needs to be 200 miles away this evening..she had hotel booked and everything for an early morning meeting!

Now totally knackered and went on an urgent hunt in every service station and motorway services near us! Even flagged down a Green Flag rescue van ...

No joy! These are fairly rare bulbs!

Lesson to all....if you have a late registered FL2 make sure you go out and get a number of spare bulbs before they go bang in the most inappropriate time!

Has anyone cured this problem?. The previous bulbs blew themselves stupid...judging by the amount of broken glass in the headlight the previous owner has had the same problem before us!

Daughter has now had to cancel going tonight and is now leaving as soon as dawn breaks!

You should have projector lenses together with daytime running lights,If so you need HB3 9005 bulbs. Lots of threads regarding HB3' failing especially those with higher output. Go for GE HB3 50% longer life bulbs, not the brightest but mine are 4months plus and so far ok. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Thanks..I’ll give them a go!
Yes, you’re right I had bought the high intensity ones! Which is a shame as they were definately brighter and better but only lasted two weeks! Shocked

Yes.. HB3 are as rare as rocking horse merde out of hours....no one stocks them so go and buy some spares now!
Even Euro Car Parts only carry them centrally and have to order them in for following day delivery...

Halfords do incorrectly say that the bulb is H7 for a 2013+ freelander. The magic lookup thing in the shop says H7 too. But as said above the correct lamp is HB3. Our local Halfords sell them.

I don't see how you could fit an H7 because the base is different, the connector wouldn't fit.

First discovered 9003/4 bulbs back in the early 90’s.....we had a Lumina Minivan import and trying to find those bulbs back then was even worse, I think one of the types (the dip beam) was just 50 watt......terrible bulbs. Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

Amazingly I found the receipt for the Halfords bulb and returned it in its broken state...the cashier stated that she thought they had a four month warranty on them and replaced it without question....

I also bought a spare pair of GE ones as spares! But what a ball ache! You have been warned!

If my GE BULBS blow then I will follow Bobupandown in fitting an HID conversion kit. Will be interested if he gets his thru the mot which, I think he said, was in March. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Interesting reading on the headlight bulb issue, as a first time owner of an FL2 59MY what are the best headlight bulbs to use in this model. We have not had any problems as yet,but after reading about the availability I think it will be wise to get a set as spares to keep in the car

I think you”ll be fine with your model....it’s only the late FL2’s post 2012/3 that were fitted with the HB3’s...think yours is fitted with the usual H7’s...
