Polyurethane is normally a rubber like material more commonly used in suspension type bushes like wishbones for example where an element of 'give' is required. I know Martas mentions using polyurethane but I would not say that polyurethane is a an ideal material for LR2 suspension spacers unless it is extremely hard.

My suspension spacers on my LR2 are made from an industrial nylon which is hard, has good resistance to cracking and is an easy material to work with for any 'fine tuning' required to make a perfect fit. The front strut top plates do have a slight curve so my thoughts/hopes were that the nylon spacers would have a shade of flexibility to match this slight curve. My suspension spacers have certainly been great and totally troublefree as I expected in the 2 years I have had them fitted.

Most suspension spacers more commonly supplied now for Freelander 1's, Discos etc are made from aluminium so I think that would also be a good choice of base material to use but a bit more difficult and time consuming to perfectly match the front strut top mounts.

good morning . you did a great job. I have a question. I would like to mount the 265/70/17. the rubber height in centimeters is 78 cm and the width 22 cm. you have problems in the steering?

With my 265/70 X 17 Kumho KL71 Mud Terrain tyres fitted there is no major steering problems but I can hear the power steering pump working that bit harder when turning below walking speed.

The Kumho KL71 tyres come with about 15mm tread when new and as I said in my previous post I bought my KL71's used with about 11mm tread and these were a very tight fit under the standard rear suspension strut. They were so tight I am not sure a brand new 265/70 X 17 KL71 would fit without rubbing on the strut. There tyres are also pretty wide so there is only about 5mm clearance between the inside wall of the tyres and the strut when running the standard Freelander 2 wheels.

If I was only running one set of wheels I would go with the larger than standard 245/70 X17 tyre size as these are well proven now and there is a better safety margin with that size for me.

Finally got my new wheels installed, with thanks to this forum for giving me the opportunity to get an extremely good deal on the rims and the valuable information I got from here was second to none... Waited for over 3 years to get these wheels and only now do I feel Im driving a Freelander2, the way it should have looked in the first place. Looks like a totally different car and not to mention, almost complete.... Now, all thats left are the suspensions spacers which are at the engineer as we 'speak'

Love the look of these big boots on the Freely2. Anyone had any hassle with their car insurance on non standard fit? I think one might be in the mire in the event of an accident if the insurers had not accepted the risk.

Thank you for all the info on the larger tyres for the Freelander 2. I had purchased a set of Freelander 2 17 inch rims with Cooper Tires Discoverer A/T 3 LT225/75R17 M&S. I was told they came off a Freelander 2. I have been trying to find any info about running such a large tyre on the Freelander 2. I finally found your post, Fantastic. After doing a wheel comparison using the 245/70 R17 (775mm O/D) Vs the 225/75 R17 (770mm O/D) this is a reduction of 5 mm. So based on the fact that you originally did not install lift spacer, I feel extremely confident that the 225/75 R17 will fit with out any issue. I am still going to install the 225/75 R17 to check the space etc, my confidence level as shot up. My original tyres 235/55 R19 worked well but not on off road I have had 3 side wall punctures, every time I go on a off road trip, getting 19 inch tyres when you are travelling in the outback is you have to wait 3 days for them to arrive, grrr. so 17 inch rims every one holds that. a win win LOL.

ended up selling mine as i wanted something that was more at home when the going became really tough, so now i have this. if you intend on doing any serious offroading, i suggest you do the same The freelander is ok but cannot do this every week, while the discovery has no problem with that
