Replacing Speedometer Dial

I am thinking of buying this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Freel...25ad1729df

I am probably going to be moving back to the UK and so will need MPH on my dial. Does anybody know how this works. If i pull out the dashboard and replace it ...is it a plug in thing etc. Obviously mine only reads KM and so i am a bit stuck as in what to do.

Also i am guessing i will have to replace the headlights. Wondering if it is all worth doing or simply sell the car.

Has anybody done this before? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks Guys
Graham

In all honesty Graham, I personally would leave the car behind and get a RHD model Thumbs Up

I would agree, not worth the hassle.

Far better to sell it and buy one over here.

I think you are going to be right on that one....Wa my first thought and its heading that way....Had it been simple i would have just brought this one back......Its a 2007 and so probably not worth buying all the modifications etc....

Will buy one with an MOT etc etc...Have a tight budget and don't think i can get one for the money i have though......could be the end of the FL2 Sad

not necessarily,

FL2, while still holding their price really well over here, are coming down in price for the higher mileage early TD4.

Don't give up hope just yet and keep looking on here and autotrader. Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

The manual suggests that rest-of-world instrument clusters are the same as UK instrument clusters apart from the markings on the speedometer. The cluster also appears to be easy to remove and re-fit. Note, however, that re-coding is required to program the new cluster to the car. It is not clear whether used clusters can be re-coded, or whether coding is a one-off event. Alex will pobably know the answer to that one.

Quote:
NOTE: When a new instrument cluster is to be installed, the Land Rover approved diagnostic system must be connected to the vehicle and the instrument cluster renewal procedure followed. This will allow vehicle coding data and current service interval data to be correctly installed to the new instrument cluster.

An alternative might be to convert your existing instruments to mph - there seem to be a number of companies offering replacement dials or conversion services - e.g. (first hit from google - I know nothing about them):

http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/fre...i3798.html

So you seem to have options other then getting rid of the car, and which may be worth considering particularly if you won't be able to afford to replace like with like.

Thanks for the info...Looks like it may be an option...THe lights are not too expensive either if i decide this option.

I have seen some 2007/8 in my price range with a little high mileage which i am not overly concerned about as long as its cosmetically sound Thumbs Up
