SRS Lamp - Defective Occupancy Classification Sensor PN?

Hi all,

So I've had the SRS/Airbag light on for the past week or so on my '10 LR2 and after searching through the forums for possible corrective actions I came up short. This included checking for DTC's, there are none, unplugging every connector, and checking for shorts in the wiring.

So last Tuesday, I brought it to the dealer under the auspice of recall P046 (SRS light illuminated) thinking that I would get it repaired free of charge. Not the case. That night I receive a phone call stating my Occupancy Classification Sensor will need to be replaced and the total cost is $1260.00 USD.

That's not really something that I can stomach without doing some research, so I declined the repair and have tried to locate the part online, but am completely unable to do so. The closest I can come up with is that it is located in the seat cushion, but haven't found any solid evidence to verify this.

If anyone can point me in the direction of the part or provide clarification, it will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick turnaround. By any chance, do you know if I can buy the module separate from the cushion?

I'm not completely sure - i'm trying to find part numbers here but not having much luck with my technology at the moment...

. An option might be to find a seat base from a breakers and take it from that? It's a weight switch basically, determines if the seat's in use if there's more than so much weight in it. If it detects weight then you usually get a seat belt reminder chime also - I get this when i put a take out on the seat without a seatbelt lol

Either way I would not be paying 1260usd for it, and think you did the right thing holding off for the time being Thumbs Up

Get an old seat belt catch and leave it plugged in until you need a passenger. I do that when I have my dog on the front seat to stop the lights/chimes coming on!

So now two things have occured. First, I ordered a seat from a breaker for 250.00 which I can't complain about. Thanks for that advice. Secondly, at the advice of a separate Land Rover dealer, I called LR North America Customer Relationship Center to ask why the part is not covered and he told me that it only covers the reprogramming of the vehicle. This is such an illogical response. How is the OCS ECU not covered under the warranty when the recall is to prevent this part from going bad?

Here's the excerpt on the Land Rover Website after I entered my VIN into the recall search: "A concern has been identified with the Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) passenger airbag which may be totally or partially disabled as a result of physical cell wear out of the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) within the Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU). When this condition is detected by the SRS system self-test, completed at ignition on, the OCS ECU will shut down. This condition results in Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0154:00 being set in the Restraints Control Module along with continuous illumination of the SRS warning lamp on the instrument cluster."

Does anyone know who to contact outside of Land Rover North America Customer Service? On top of that, I was charged a diagnostics fee to tell me that the OCS ECU is bad. That is just in bad taste.
