Help! My boot lid keeps unlocking of it own accord.
If the cars locked it seems to be ok but if its unlocked or your sitting in it with the engine running and the key in the ignition,
it unlocks itself.
The dash then flashes up the boot is open and you have to get out and close it.
I was washing the car yesterday and it opened itself about 5 times!

Anyone got any ideas as to whats causing this?

Theres a problem with the boot switch corroding and short circuiting. Do a search it's pretty easy to either clean or change

To be honest, why faff about trying to repair it, you've gone to the trouble to remove it, just replace it, it's under £20.

Daft question but is this assembly sunk into the rear bumber assembly and how easy is it to get out.

Forget that as ive just a look in the tailgate.
How do you get the trim off. .?
Im tempted to give it a pull but then always seem to break bits.

Just remove the two screws, one in each inner handle of the Tailgate, then gently pop the panel off with a Panel Pry bar or large flat screwdriver, then pop it off all the way around.

Watch the screwdriver first time I did it I chipped the inner tailgate paint
A good hard tug will do it (cue inuendos galore) holding on to the inner handles where the screws are

There is a YouTube clip with someone taking the trim off if you do a search you will see that you just undo the two screws and give it a pull. Comes off in one piece.

Just replaced the switch after buying a new one.
The switch assembly was full of water and mess. Seems a shame so much effort is put into sealing up the micro switch and the connectors yet the thing still gets water in it because of a duff rubber moulding.

Why aren't there any drain holes in the plastic moulding to stop water pooling in the main component....?

Same as you, went to LR today but none in stock and none of the suspension parts I wanted were in stock either So got them to order the bits

Guess they didn't expect them to fill with water hense no drain holes? Looking at the parts, they have changed the design 3 times sinse 2006  Freelander 57 plate XS Blue Auto

I drilled a couple of 2mm holes either side of the boot switch which you cant see but will hopefully drain any water that accumulates in the boot handle.

The new part had an extra cable in it with a fancy plug at either end. Was going to cut i off but then just stashed the cable ends out of the way.

Just fitted my new switch, the old one was pants and wet

one thing i have noticed now is that once re fitting the handle you can now see where its rubbed the paint away on both sides :/
