So a recent trip to the West country ended with the Freelander cutting out at 70 MPH on a dual carriageway with no warning. There was no hard shoulder and with d*ckheads unable to see 2 tonnes of red car with the hazards flashing on a long straight road in clear daylight it was entertaining

Wife and kids walked a mile along a grass verge hopping over badger carcasses with wet grass and brambles up to their armpits while I waited for the local police to tow me to the safety of the services (Thank you Avon & Somerset police )

LR assist sent out the AA, who took me and the family to the local dealers, but before we set off the driver put three rows of horizontal tape across my rear index plate so it couldn't be read. He explained this was part of their 'prestige' contract with LR. He didn't try and disguise the make or model (bit difficult I suppose) just my number plate.

Why ??

Turns out the fuel pump and sender unit had packed up so the car thought it had no fuel.

I have always understood this to be due to your car being recovered, it it likely to be accident damaged/written off/failed mechanically/all three - either way is likely to be off the road for some time (and possibly permanently).

Disguising your number plate means that some scrote cannot use your number plate on another vehicle - which they may well attempt in the knowledge YOUR car is off the road for some time/permanently.

That makes sense. The driver said it was a LR contract stipulation.

I also understand that it is illegal to show two Number Plates to the rear. Also should should the vehicle be flashed by a speed camera, you could get the NIP instead of the AA vehicle.

Nah, my car isn't on the road enough to get a ticket, unless it's for obstruction of the highway

I must try to get the ANPR camera to look at two number plates to see what happens? It often picks up the ID number on keep left bollards but just comes up unknown.
