United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Sorry, this is well off topic but, thanks carriec for posting that picture of the Tambora Flame FL2 with colour matched plastic mouldings. I was going to do this to mine but after seeing that piccy I'm not going to now as it does not look right to me. i will however fit the rear spolier and probably the longer tailgate handle.

Might just be me but I think the chrome is cheap and tacky! It serves no purpose other than to pit over time! It's the first thing I will be changing when I pick up my Freelander! If you cast your mind back to approx 6 years ago Land Rover did no cheap chrome like Audi and Merc do around the door frames. Don't know why LR have gone down this route Whistle no offence to anyone who has done the chrome arse conversions, as yes the vehicle does look inline with current model! Just hate the fact LR doing rear chrome on the back ! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Everyone's opinions are different. Smile

Personally I think the chrome looks great. Much better than the dull grey plastic on Pre MY11 models. Whistle

I totally appreciate that Chris Thumbs Up I preferred the old style however, as it looked smart with the Land Rover stamped on it! Wink have even been thinking of taking my chrome arse off and replacing it with the old style handle colour coded of course Very Happy MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Thumbs Up

I wouldn't change your handle back to the older versions, it will make your car look dated. Whistle

I would go down Slaneydores route and get it wrapped or covered. Thumbs Up

Just an observation. Recently removed the full length tailgate handle, chrome, number plate lights, etc to fit a reversing camera. I was very disappointed to discover that on my 26k mile 60 plate Freelander that the tailgate paint under the edge of the handle strip was fretting and had gone down through the undercoat to bare metal in several places! The plastic handle has thin single-sided foam on the inside but even at such low mileage this appears to have been "squeezed" inwards allowing the plastic to chafe against the paint. The handle was not loose - I suspect that the tailgate suffers from some high frequency vibration.

Anyway, had to touch up the paint finish before refitting the handle adding a couple of hours to an already fiddly job routing the camera wiring around the rear window and through the top rubber hoses into the rear headlining. Sorry, stupidly failed to take any pictures but this was a source of worry to me that if I had not got to this now, rust was not far away!
