United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Hi, yes do not turn the engine on but put the key in the car and press the start button without putting your foot on the clutch or break - depending on whether you have manual or automatic. leave for 5 mins then remove the 70ml.

Hi, I've tried to switch the ignition on pressing the start button without pressing the clutch pedal but...nothing happens. No noises, no buzzes...nothing. Leaving the key in the dash have the same effect than push the start button w/o clutch pedal.
.is it normal?

Do you mean the airbag light, glow plugs light, oil, all the red and-or Yellow lights that blinks on when the engine is cranking and turns off once the engine is running?

No...nothing. Only the radio display/light turns on. Like you simply put the key on the slot. Pushing the start engine button w/o foot on the clutch doesn't have any effect to my FL.. Confused

Please can a member who has changed Haldex oil tell us what colour their oil was?

hi
changed mine yesterday, the car is a 2007 with 140.000 km.

the oil was very dark and the filter closing plate was dirty of some kind of deposit.

I was able to extract appox 300 ml of old oil from the haldex unit Smile

Other companies using the same unti may well use different seals, oil & filters? thats the only real explination if they are indeed the same units. its not uncommon to have oil filled sealed units, i suppost if their calculations came back and say it will last 200,000 miles+ on the same oil and filter then it wouldnt be added to the service schedule?

I havent looked at the service schedule but i would guess that the oil should at least be check/ topped up on a service? MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

Just to elaborate, the filters get blocked up with horrible gunk, this can then cause blockages or poor fluid flow which inturn can cause damage to the unit.

Next one I change I will take photo of the state of it and post it up. www.bellengineering.co.uk

Am I right that getting into the later Haldex to do a oil and filter service is mission impossible though.

Look forward to seeing the pictures of the poorly Haldex at some time. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

To only change fluid you can suck out about 2/3rds of it with a syringe through the fill hole. Obvious problem is you haven't changed filter and not all the fluid.

Only way to really change filter and drain fluid is to remove haldex. Fairly easy, just undo prop and rear support beating from prop so you can drop it, then 4 bolts hold haldex onto diff.

I'd recommend a fluid only change (first option) at 20k intervals, and filter at 40k. www.bellengineering.co.uk

That looks like its 40k overdue!! The oil seems to have emulsified. As my recently bought vehicle has no history of autobox service and oilchange I will look to get that and the haldex done together. 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)
