In a similar vein - the Woodruff key was developed by W.N. Woodruff of Connecticut. In 1888, he was awarded the John Scott Medal by the Franklin Institute for his invention. Jules

Greetings All,

Get this: the local Land Rover shop does not want to touch Hadlex fluid change; as expressed with a $2000 quote and inability to see the vehicle for 3 months. Even the local Volvo specialists shops won’t touch it.

What gives. Where have all the real mechanics gone? Guy Pensa

The Haldex AWD system is used in quite a number of different manufacturers' cars, you must surely be able to find someone if there is no reliable independent service agent around one that is able to service it?

Best to check with Austen at Bell. I do believe he always removes the type 4

Its the type 3 that normally gets upgraded to a type 4.

Fairly certain the gen 4 haldex pump can be removed in situ, unless you are unlucky enough to have the large input flange, in that instance the input flange also has to be removed!

Good luck with it,

Gen 4 serviced, my09 105K miles, oil in pretty good order really and no metal bits evident, bit of friction material suspended in the oil ( brown flakes in photo, photos make it look worse than it was really) and after cutting up the old filter it looks like it would have been ok for quite some time, but its done now.

If you keep all the tires of the same size, wear and pressure and you don't floor it during starts in corners, this is how it's supposed to look and last.

Mechanical sympathy and commonsense, not sure where that’s taught these days Smile

Personally I don’t think the tires make that much difference, I think a gentle right foot is the biggest contributor to long life in these vehicles.

The Volvo part no. for Haldex oil is now 31367940. I paid £17.76 (VAT inc) for a litre.
