MOT'ed yesterday broken spring replaced and faded indicators but not bad for going on to 180k.

New AT3s and 2010 rear lights (thanks to RealBeale), looking smart but wallet significantly lighter! Corrado VR6 Mystic Blue - Gone

Went to Reading to see the Panto with grandchildren “oh no you didn’t, oh yes I did”. Fantastic show.
Sadly caught up in the aftermath of an RTC on the M25 on way back, didn’t move for over an hour Sad

SWMBO had the i6 over with the grand children, as she was duty officer today. Got a call from her saying she had gone to move it to a better parking spot, put the key fob in and ... nothing. Couldn't get the fob out and nothing was working.

Time for me to put my AA hat on. Jumped into the XK with a bag o' bits and headed over to the son and daughter-in-law's place. And she was right, nothing, not even the hazards, worked. The battery was new earlier this year and we had not done any short or stop/start journeys. I was flummoxed.

I then thought I ought to attempt to remove the key fob. It didn't budge until I used my plastic collar stiffeners (yes, I still wear shirts that need them), slid either side of the fob to push the retaining lugs back and out it slipped. I won that round.

Thinking that something must have badly drained the battery, I thought I would take it out and up to the house to charge it; they have no drive so I was on the public road doing this. I got out my trusty spanner set, wound on the 10mm socket and set it onto the negative lead nut. Well, you should have heard the stirrings that then came from deep within the engine and dash area; whirs, whistles, sighs and kapows. What the?

On trying out a few things all was back to normal and as it should be. Investigating further it appears that the nut securing the negative lead was not tight enough and had shaken loose enough that it had allowed the battery to, in effect, die. The nut is now tighter and the whole apparatus is smeared liberally with Vaseline, a pot of which I keep in the boot, as you do.

Peace and normality resumed. Until next time.

A relieved, Tim.

Well worth checking at the same time as your engine bay level checks. Thumbs Up DAVE.

England 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Started receiving the pile of bits I'm going to be fitting over the Christmas break. My "cheap" Freelander 2 is already eating into the money I got selling my FL1

New door seal
NS Inner inner and outer track rod
Nightbreaker headlight bulbs to replace the aftermarket HIDs in the projectors
Powerful "E" marked DRL Fogs
Ford ST Focus interior light with the ambient lighting (both my other cars have ambient lighting, as did my old D3 and it's astonishing how much I miss it in this one, particularly with the black headlining)
Rear DRLs that sit where the rear reflectors are in the bumper (It's a *very* black car and having ignition switched DRLs front and rear just makes sense to me)
3M red reflective tape strip to sit on the outer vertical edges of the tailgate glass (as above)
Boot Liner
Thule Wing Edge roof bars ( also going to take the lightbar off and make up some brackets for the front roof bar so the light sits further back and a little higher that at present )

How much of this I get done in the break and how much rolls into January, who knows.... Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

Just done 500 miles from Devon to Scottish Borders, 3-up with car stuffed full of gear. Not much traffic, cruise set at (or near enough to not worry too much..) the legal limits and not being too gentle, 38mpg - very happy. ~No oil used, levels all good at start and end. Cannot believe how good it is as a cruiser as well as its other duties. Feel so much more relaxed at the end of it than when the same journey was done in a mk3 CRV or our old X1 23d. Loving our 2011 SD4 automatic and reading of what everyone else has done with their FL2 today!

Mate's garage is closed until New Year, so met him up there to give him a hand getting the engine out of his R32 and in turn borrow some time on his ramps for the Freelander.

Replaced the NSF inner track rod and outer track rod end and slackened off the rear camber bolts (they were a bit touch and go, even with a 2ft bar) then did the tracking. While it was up on the two-post I also tracked down the rumble to the NSF wheel bearing, which was only replaced by the previous owner this summer, so goodness knows what's happened there.

New hub and bearing on the way from Advanced Factors - an easy one to do on the drive without needing a ramp.

Also double-checked the fault codes I had seen with my Foxwell. Seems the EGR valve is a bit sticky, so shall continue to run V-Power for a couple more tanks but realistically expect to stick a new valve on there in the next few weeks. Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

New Wheels

Hi all - Persistent lurker occasional poster

Found a nice set of wheels and tyres local to me - Im not normally a lover of black wheels but i feel that they suit the FL2 quite well in this colour

Just need some knobbly tyres to go with them

Did the front Pads as well at the same time - any tips for bedding in?

Added the often discussed extra earth to my 11 plate FL2.
I bought a 36 inch 170 amp cable with a 6mm eye one end and an 8mm at the other from ebay seller 'willinton'
I replaced one of the starter bolts with p/n LR012452. It has an M8 stud sticking out of the head. There is also p/n LR001360 which has an M6 stud.
I ran the cable back towards the bulkhead and zip tied it to the large cable that's clipped to the 'stat housing, then along it a little further and the branched off towards the front, where I ran it into the battery box.
I unclipped the front part of the battery box and extended the grommet slot down enough so it's a tight fit on the flexible trunking and held in place by the shaped grommet above.
A lot of words, but I didn't take any pictures as I wanted to just crack on before it got dark and or rained...!
Anyway, it started a bit quicker and I'm hoping it helps because the starter solenoid has stuck a couple of times and I've had to give the starter a little tap...
