Bought it (well 2 weeks ago) 2010 td4e GS spec with 103k on the clocks, recent brakes all round, 4 new tyres

patchy service history with nothing in book since 2016 but receipts for various bits and pieces that were done though previous owners workshops so not been entirely neglected ( been used as a hgv garage runabout & and then a stone company runabout ).

so far I've washed it and looking much better for it weirdly no dents or scratches all be covered in algi in various nooks and crannies and no signs of repairs either and the best bit no rust!! Mr. Green

replaced the air filter which wasn't the worst I've seen but still grubby and lubed up the rear wiper arm which was beginning to seize so was holding away from the screen

Ringing local Indy at lunch to book in for cambelt & water pump this next week or so but will try to get oil and filter done myself to keep costs down.

so far around the doors I'm getting 30.5 mpg but its fitted with general grabbers and I'm only dong a 12 mile round trip commute

Modern Problem

Trip to the dump (aka Recycling Centre)

Turned away as I had an even number plate. (It was a odd number plate day)

I had read in the local paper that they were relaxing the numerous rules now associated with rubbish disposal, but the the man
at the Centre informed me that yes they had but they had not changed the restricted entry conditions.

It seems that many changes brought in as "Temporary Measures" for Covid-19 are going to be with us forever. For example most of our sea-front parking has been coned off, as well as quite a few spaces amongst our shops. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

And the councils wonder why fly tipping is on the increase.

Our 'dump' is operating odd / even number plate day but for the life of me I can’t see what difference it makes...

... If, for example, an average of 200 cars visit the dump over a weekend, the number plate system simply means roughly half of that number will visit on the Saturday and the other half on the Sunday. Same volume of visits but organised into odds & evens.

No doubt I am missing something obvious there but like many many others, we have two cars and can thus go to the dump on either odd days or even days.

For Kent Recycling centres you have to
book on line and select a day and time slot, (up to twice a month allowed and 2 alterations)
then it's Name, Address, Car make, Car model, Car colour and Reg number.
a bit of a faff, but I do find it's far easier and a lot quicker getting in and out.

I was passing a local recycling site a few weeks back with a load of paper and glass, drove in, woman at the booth eyed the car up and waved me in.
Realised afterwards it was an odd/even registration arrangement and happened to hit the right day. Win win situation as it wasn't even my own council and believe that as an outsider you can't generally use it without paying a fee. And then as I left I noticed a sign saying that advance bookings were required.
They must have been really quiet that day and looking for the business Laughing

That'a a bit of an out dated slur on council workers to say that they lean on their brushes instead of working.

These days they spend time chatting or playing games on their mobile phones.

Rang my trusted Indy to enquire about them doing my cambelt on my 2010,

"sorry don't do them, too complicated, try xxxx (land rover specialist with dubious reputation and pricing in the local area), bye, click Brrrrrrrrrrrrr "

this is despite them doing my last 3 cambelts on various cars, so I will be voting with my feet and going elsewhere from now on.

We visited my daughter in Canterbury recently and loaded up the car with garden rubbish then we discovered that we had to book it in as above so we drove back to Dorset 180 miles and dropped it off there, no queues, no questions . Rolling Eyes 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Bit off topic but I had a call from my son in Kenya this morning. He is out car shopping. He had a Hilux with galactic miles on it so his firm bought him a nice 3 year old Ford Ranger pickup a few months ago. This had a few problems so went to the Ford dealer in Nairobi, his boss then got visited by the police as it appears that the Ranger had been stolen and sold by a dodgy dealer who had been stealing vehicles and selling them in rural areas where no one would notice (no ANPR cameras out there) so it got impounded. He has been around to see various Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi dealers today so I suggested what about the new Defender? He said he would go to the LandRover dealers for a laugh but doubts if anyone would seriously buy one for travelling around Africa.
He is going for a new Ford Ranger and apparently they get sent straight to a local guy who will fit uprated shockers and chunky Goodrich tyres 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto
