 Just Asked Direct Line About Adding A Spoiler

Sorting my insurance out so thought I better ask - for adding a standard boot lip spoiler to my FL2 it will cost me £162 extra per year as I'd like to add one if mine doesnt have one Shocked

I did question this and they have checked with their technical under writers and yes its correct.

Stunned.

Didnt dare ask about side steps.

Side steps might be OK. Spoilers have connotations of boy racers. Why would you want a "go faster" accessory otherwise Whistle Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

That's because you have dealt with a call centre box ticker that has not got a clue.

I plan to raise it with them by mail but it did get passed to their 'technical team' - the call taker actually agree with me and asked 2 supervisors but I do agree that its a default they are going with and not considering what it actually does.

Thing is, if it was on the Freely when you had bought it would you have said anything. If someone buys a used vehicle do they know exactly how it was specced at the factory, if its fitted at the factory is it classed as a Mod?

From memory DL had 2 or 3 types of spoiler to choose from, one been a whale fin like you would get on a Cosworth

Explain its more for diverting the air to help keep the rear screen clearer whilst driving and not to increase the down force or more grip (not that it's does keep the glass clearer) Whistle

Make them aware it's a genuine LR part, which is on the option list not some Chav type ironing board thing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I added my side steps, and when telling them, i made a point that i was protecting their risk of car park door damage.
Went through no problem.
Did it the same time as telling them I'd put winter tyres on, again, to protect their risk.

No I fitted it myself, when I spoke to the insurers a subtle use of language explaining that it was a genuine LR part that they fit at the factory, didn't actually say mine wasnt Whistle and it's now documented.

To be honest with a spoiler I wouldn't worry about telling them its hardly going to cause an accident unlike brake, engine or wheel mods.
As AD said, if it ever comes up you bought it like that.

Just use "post reply" down in the bottom left, not the quote button, it makes the posts longer and harder to read, especially if your quoting the immediately preceding post Thumbs Up

Well I havent picked up the car yet and forgot to check to see if there was on so it was an a question as I would like to do this just in case. Wink

I had a problem with direct line when i bough mine new when going through the application they considered every factory extra a modification !
winter pack ( headlamp washer etc ) + £ 30 Heated screen +£ 120.00 cruise control + £30.00 , wait for it £10.00 for the luggage cover ! yes i was charged extra & it does appear I shouldn't of bean !but when we got to the tow bar the argument started, ie was it a factory fit or after-market fit at the dealer ! I said it was a genuine bar but fitted at a dealer and they needed to go away and consult ! imagine if I had got round to mentioning winter tyres & wheels !!!!!!!!!!!!

They also wanted a serious excess to take the caravan abroad as european cover was another extra !

It ended up around £520 & £220 with another company with everything declared and they don't even want me to ring them when I put winter boots on.

My big concern with DL is that you have to declare everything & I reckon if you have omitted to tell them one thing that's there get out clause if a claim is needed. I moved company in the end and it was cheaper as well & 100 times more professional.
