Discounts? Finalised at 15% and now here!

Anyone have any recent experience of buying new? If so, is discounting back or is on the road price.

Last year I was contacted by the supplying dealing and asked if I wanted a new one as mine was 2 years old. I asked the price of a new GS manual and was quoted the brochure price with no discounts available.

Decided to keep my GS and see what was available when it was 3 years old. Well its 3 years old next month and I am considering keeping it without a warranty as I’m over the failed clutch and DMF issues and my confidence in the car has returned Thumbs Up

I know there is a 2013 model due in October which I doubt most of us could spot the difference on the outside.

So, any experience or expectation of 2012 discounts? A Land Rover owner since 1988

From a 1974 series III to a 12MY XS FL2 with help of a 1995 D1, 1996 D1, 2005 D3, 2007 D3 and a 2009 FL2.

There are certainly deals to be done. Just got an excellent deal myself.

Best time to talk is just before the end of the month and when they have some cars in stock. Dealers will be very keen to register before the end of August, so suggest you walk in and see what they can do for you on Tuesday, or even Monday if you can find one that is open (just enough time to turn a car around and get an additional number out the door).

I would also go in an explain that you are not expecting there to be any profit in the deal, but you will help them get another car toward their quarterly target.

A dealer near to me is doing 0% finance on stock models so they want to clear out the old stuff asap

As mentioned earlier going in close to end of month or quarter adds eagerness to do deals.

LR may be selling Evoques hand over fist but the FL2 is, although selling well, no where near the demand of the Evo...so deals are there for the making

Be cautious of 0% finance deals, unless they are 50% down.

LR is currently running at 6.9% and that has to come from somewhere... normally taken from the deal in some way and sometimes the discount or PEx is manipulated. 2012 DISCOVERY 4 GS AUTO ORKNEY GREY

Hunters Derby offered me £2k off a new GS Freelander2, before I even negotiated, but we've bought an ex-demo/per-reg instead. We're happy with it and the price, but they would not budge or negotiate.

First offer was 9% discount on a 2012 model GS or XS TD4 manual.

Then got offered XS TD4 manual which has options added to near HSE specification down from £33,000 to £28,000. That’s a 15% discount.

So a near HSE spec XS for GS money. I’m tempted! A Land Rover owner since 1988

Not sure where they are finding 15%, but if they really are then snap their hand off.

Dealer profit is generally 5%, but they achieve another 5% if they hit quota. Most deals are done with the target assumed hit, so 10% to play with.

I must say I am glad I went for the auto, in particular the SD4. Unlike parallax, I didn't own a manual but have driven one and the auto is smoother and easier although the kickdown is a tad hefty if you stamp on the throttle.

Economy is on a par with the manual on a good run although I suspect a lead foot would see more mpg in a manual than in an auto. No clutch and flywheel worries though.

I believe the TD4 auto commands a £1500 premium for the auto box but the SD4 is auto only Thumbs Up 60 plate SD4 XS, Stornoway Grey, Arm rest pack

I have the same car as The Doctor and I am reluctant to trade it because the manual box is a pleasure to drive.

Yes I have had the DMF and clutch failure but as said I’m over that.

I had a SD4 auto HSE for a week when mine was having a new clutch and yes it is quick and smooth but it sounded like a singer sewing machine. There is no driver involvement with the engine and road. Dreadful.

I had a D3 auto and it was fantastic as it should be as the box was from a Bentley and not a Ford Wink

As for my current negotiations I like the XS spec with additional HSE leather, arm rests and 18 inch alloys. I don’t like the p/x but I guess that is where some of the 15% is coming from. Still some negotiations ongoing. A Land Rover owner since 1988

I find the command shift really involving now I'm getting used to it, and compared to the old 3 gear autos, the LR2 unit changes down through the gears as you reduce speed so feels a lot like a manual to drive.

Enjoying it so far, but interesting to hear from people who like the manual comparing experiences.

Do the 'newer' Frelander 2s (150 and 190PS) use a traditional auto box with a torque converter or have they gone over to the dual clutch arrangements from the Fords?

I ask because the Evoque 2.0 petrol is a 6-speed auto, yet this engine in the Mondeo is a 6-speed twin clutch (which I owned) auto.

Having used the older Freelander 2 (160PS) for 10+weeks as courtesy cars (whilst LR repeatedly tried to rebuild my old Defender and damaged it more and more with each effort) I 1would say I prefer the manuals. I have control and could get 37mpg without effort around town. The auto on the same drives was struggling to top 29mpg.

But the only auto I have ever actually rated was the 4-speed in my P38A 2.5 diesel. Always found every other auto disappointing. I did breifly drive a 6-speed Disco4 auto and on a 10-mile test drive it seemed great, but I would like to have longer to it before I declare it the only other auto to please me Wink

I guess that is why LR give us the choice in a Freelander, because we are all different. Shame that option is not afforded to RaRo and D4 owners Sad
