Maybe if there are no flow markings then the direction doesn't matter?

Finished the service.
One week oil and filter, next week fuel filter and so on.... Weeks later when you least expect it.... all done!  |

Ha, no, always do the engine oil drain first (unless on something where there's a filler/level plug and it's prudent to at least check that can be undone first!).
