| Keep an eye on lidl's adverts, as they frequently have a smart battery charger for about £15. I've had one for a number of years, and have been lead to believe the electronics are identical to a Ctek. |

But if you plugged a trailer or caravan in, you wouldn't want the sensors beeping every time you reversed. 
As for the performance, mine doesn't change when something is plugged in. |

Coal burns much cleaner than any oil, but has a much higher ash content. So oxides of sulphur and nitrogen would be much lower, but your exhaust wouldn't look too clean.
