In my experience, weather and road conditions make more of a difference to efficiency than the AC, so leaving it on AUTO mode is best.

The AC on our EV uses between 150 and 500 Watts of power depending on AC load, so would be similar for an ICE vehicle too.

A gallon of diesel contains 34 kWh of energy, so 500 Watts out of 34 kWh ...

Its just a dust cap like a tyre valve. Nothing to worry about.
Providing no dirt settled in the valve aperture while the cap was off, which gets pushed into the AC system next pressure check.

I used JLR SDD to remove those things, except auto locking after getting out, as that wasn't active on mine.

There's a weep hole between the diff and haldex seal. It's a special labyrinth seal with a void between the 2 components, which has a weep hole for leak identification. Thumbs Up
