Have you pulled a glow plug just to check if they are wet? Surely that gives you 100% clarity that they aren't opening.

I should be home from this rig before xmas if you are wanting a shot of JLR ...

I'd say that the brake light switch/wiring being short circuit would most definitely be a good place to start. Have you checked the wiring or are you just going straight in for the senso change?
