You haven’t read the Haynes manual properly in that case! The flywheel locking tool is required so as to be able to slacken/torque the crankshaft pulley bolt.

My Weatherproofs lasted 18mths/14,000miles. No geometry issues. The Michelin Crossclimates that I replaced them with, still have 4mm after 30,000 miles.
