Have you tested the clutch on the replacement unit with a 12 volt feed? At 8.5 ohms it might be out of spec - but there again a couple of ohms additional resistance (on an inductive) load could easil ... |

You could leave it as it is - the rope is helping keep the wheel arch liner clean after all...
