LED Bulb Replacement

Any one managed to get the position markers/brake lights converted without pulsing?

I've changed the rear indicators (Included a shunt resistor to stop the rapid "bulb blown" flashing)

When I tried the front Sidelights, or the rear tail lights, they flash at about 5hz (I've been told this is a pulse sent, to check for bulb-outage).

I got some people having a dig around at work for a solution....any tips here?? '57 FL2 GS

You might want to try installing a relay with the coil in line with a resistor matching the bulb then use the relay contacts to feed a seperate supply to the LED.
http://www.rydertowing.co.uk/pages/documen...de2003.pdf
might give some help in this.
However, all the LED's listed in speeding.co.uk are listed as NOT ROAD LEGAL so you may want to rethink this idea unless you are using LED's only when off-roading.
I changed the footwell and glovebox bulbs for LED's as they can't be seen from outside and they do give a better warmer glow with Philips Silver Vision in the indicators to get rid of the 'fried-egg' look with chrome bulbs in the side repeaters.

hope this helps. Out with the old (2007 SE)
In with the new (2012 Dynamic with everything). Now also gone.

United Kingdom

This year I replaced the original side, indicator and brake lights on my Defender with a set of LED lights from Roverantics and there is an interesting story here!
The non franchise specialist who did the job also fitted a new chassis to my 90, did some engine work and then presented the wagon to his pet MOT man for testing (they don't do MOT's in house and farm them out to a garage down the road). The car was presented for the MOT with it's original lights fitted. It sailed through the MOT. About a week later the specialist took the car back to the MOT centre for something to do with another car (I was overseas when my 90 was having all the work done and the specialist was using it to bed in the new chassis and ccheck every thing was OK) and also AFTER the new LED lights had been fitted. The tester at the centre immediately picked up the fact that the lights had been changed and told my mate that had the 90 come in for the MOT with the LEDs on he would have failed it, but didn't give a reason. On examination the lights have no CE mark or E mark, however when my specialist asked several other test centres the reckon that there is nothing in the construction and use regs that precludes the use of replacement LED lights. I contacted Roverantics and they claim never to have had a problem before (yeah, yeah). So until I get stopped or until the next MOT my 90 will wear it's LED lights. I must say that recently I thought that my high intensity rear fog light was on all the time because of the reflection of the Landy behind me on an offroad drive................. I asked the other driver if my fog light was on and he said no, but you have the brightest brake lights I have ever seen, you won't need a rear fog as they are brighter! My front side lights are also very bright (brighter than my headlights!) and a much whiter light then the feint yellow glimmer that my headlights have! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

my old FL1 I just got rid of pasts its MOT 3 times with LEd Front Position markers, Rear LED Indicators & LED tail/stop & Centre Brake lights....never was an issue...

I sourced my LEDS from http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/index.php in the past, but he seems to be expanding in non-automotive bulbs, and has stopped doing some of the Automotive... Mad '57 FL2 GS

Well, when parked up, you cant tell....but when, for example you brake, the Light-up time is much faster, and its an instanst off=>on...no fade-up, fade-down like you get with a standard bulb. LEDS were used int eh Centre-High mounted postion, as on motoerway (High-way) the quicker light-up times have been proved to give about half a second advantage on warning the person behind you have applied the brakes....not a lot, but if your traveeling at 85mph Not that I would officer), it works out at a few meters extra stopping distance.

I orriginally fitted the stop/tail LED lamps to my FL1, as the Lights were alot closer to the road, and Id fitted slightly wider, AT tyres. The amount of muck being flung up seemed to be much greater,,,& when the muck hits the (warm) lense, it would start to bake-on.....giving you a white do-nut of baked on crud. This not only looked nasty, but reduced light-out.

With the LED stop/tail lights, this was greatly reduced as there is no heat build up.

No I just want to fit them to my L2, as I simply like the "direct" type of light they give off...The Front Position markers (Side lights) are a crisp-pure white...not a nasty biege/yellow glow. '57 FL2 GS
