trip meter crashed?

was driving, everything seemed fine, then noticed that the trip meter in the center of the dash was showing the same time for an hour, the fuel guage was stuck at the same level and not dropping, the range was displaying the same figure it had been for the last hour, and you couldnt cycle the trip meter options anymore.

stopping the car, turning off, waiting for the trip meter LCD to go blank, then restarting restored it back to working order (for now).

anyone heard of this happening before?

Greece 2008 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Sumatra Black

Same happened to me few days ago. The information screen was frozen. I turn the engine off, I removed the key but the frozen information was still on. Then I started the engine but the screen did not change at all. I turned the engine off again, removed the key, waited for 2-3 minutes, the screen went blank, and after that all went back to normal.

this sounds likely for us as well... immediately before this happened, when the car had been started the fuel gauge showed a full tank even though we knew there was less than 1/4. it then proceeded to fall to its correct level and I presume it crashed not long after getting there.

i've found another issue where starting the car, immediately switching off, then restarting, causes the fuel gauge to show empty.
